SOURCE: Dell 1320c prints black as light grey. Tonor

This isn\'t a fault with the printer, IT IS A FAULT WITH THE WAY IT HAS BEEN SET UP! The problem is, not all of the tabs have been removed from the PHD unit inside. In order to remove these, you need to open the front cover of
the printer, move the four tabs 90 degrees and pull the whole PHD out.
You will then see the four yellow tags on the side.
Having printed with the tags in means the PHD has been potentially
damaged. If you\'re lucky, you\'ll get away with removing the tags now and
it will return to normal after about 50 pages, it not then you\'ll need a
new PHD. The reason the problem manifests itself with black first is
because the black is the most commonly used colour.

For info on removing all the tags, see here:

SOURCE: my dell 1320c laser printer is starting to sound

Mine is doing the same thing and no luck on anyone advising where to lubricate the inside the unit. I'm sure it's a simple fix...mine honestly just sounds like it needs "oiled"... but where to "oil" it is the big question. It still prints beautifully. Can anyone out there help?

On page 30 of the 1320c manual it says this signifies the coming end of the PHD (print head device). I cannot find a part number or reference to the PHD on the Dell web site pages connected with this printer

The left side of paper comes out of my Dell 1320c printer very faint. Why?

If there is a toner cartridge in this printer, take it out and shake it. Do this outdoors in the event that come toner comes out in the process. Don't want to soil carpeting with toner! Sometimes the toner clumps up and doesn't spread throughout the cartridge. Shaking it, distributes the toner and allows printing more evenly.

My dell 1320 is not printing on the left side of the paper, it is very faded. What is the problem?

I had a similar problem with my 1320c. It seems that it is to do with toner contamination in the optical processing unit. I solved this issue by removing the unit and cleaning the mirrors/lenses in the open front of the unit and the laser/mirrors behind the plastic cover at the back with compressed air. This is an involved job needing the removal of all the outer casing and a couple of circuit boards. Only tackle this if you are competent with electro-mechanical devices.
It seems a real shame that this printer was not manufactured with a sealed optical processor unit which would have cost very little extra and stopped the contamination.

Error light is "Orange On"

I did return to the Dell Spare Parts section and connect to someone via their Chat service. Although (at 45 minutes) the chat process took about twice as long as I expected, in the end they did have the DT574, Print Head Device which I ordered at $116 plus tax and shipping. This was less than the $168 I found at two independent web sites. I am assuming they are sending me the correct item for the printer. If not, I will follow up on this posting to let everyone know.
