Philips VOIP841 Cannot connect to Skype - Adsl problem?

I just bought the Philips Voip841 and was looking forward to calling on Skype without having my computer on. However, this has not yet been possible. Skype won't connect. I have tried unplugging everything and starting again. My Internet connection is fine and Skype is up and running on my computer. I have a Philips CPWBS154 ADSL Wireless Base Station with three LAN sockets. I use LAN 1 and 2 for my computers, and have connected the phone to the LAN 3.  What might the problem be? Should I maybe be making changes in certain settings somewhere?
Grateful for help!

I have exactly the same problem too, paid good money for what looks to be a great Phone, but I'm not able to log on to Skype.

I'm having the same problem. Not being very technical I've decided to follow the advice the take the batteries out for 4 hours and see what happens. If any one has a better (simple) idea I'd be grateful. Incidentally, does this phone have an on-off switch?

We just purchased the VOIP841skype phone and cannot get the phone to register. We have tried numerous things such as unplugging all lines, removing batteries from handset and repeatedly attempting to register. We cannot get to the stage where it asks you to enter pin number. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Right. I've fixed it!

Here's what I did.

- You need to upgrade to the latest firmware. This is available from the Philips website. Make sure you select exactly the model of your phone. There are some instructions about how to upgrade the firmware in the manual
- Then you need to perform a reset of the system. ie: get a sharp tool and ram it into the tiny little hole on the black box which comes with the phone. If you don't do this after upgrading, it doesn' t work.
- One other tip is to check the firewall settings on your router allow the traffic in/out as well.

I called the Philips service center, and they were a bit useless, but they said if it doesn't work you could try taking the batteries out of the phone for 4 hours. Hmmmm... only try this if the above doesn't work!

Good luck.

An other prolem is that the Vopi841 can't resolve DNS behind a router if you are using DHCP, istead use static IP and punch in DNS adress by hand in handset this wil solve Skype login problems.

The solution of Doopster 12.Nov.2007 above help me. Specially the remark of taking the batteries out for 4 hours.
After the firmware upgrade and the reset I still was not able to login to skype. But after taking the batteries out for several hours, I was able to login to skype :-).

Thanks a lot Doopster

Incompatibility with ACER computers?

Hi, I have the same phone, I also have an ACER laptop and running vista home premium.

I needed to download the vista software package from telephonesonline (it costs for the download) but no problems after that it works great.

The only thing with this particular phone is that if you have a monthly account (skype pro) and you use your package as your regular phone you need to add every phone number you call to your contact list.

I haven't found a soloution to dial out from the phone using skype with out it being in the contacts list.

Dialling from computer then taking call on phone?

Hi zappawo, This is impossible with the Philips VOIP321. A design flaw. You have to live with it or buy another one, like the GE/Thomson GE21878. I bought the GE with this question in mind. The GE does take over the calls from the screen to the handset. As it should be.
Best regards, Fred

Problem with philips voip841

Try retrieve the IP address of your VOIP841, on the handset press the “Menu” button, navigate to the “Settings” menu and choose the option “Network”, then "DHCP", it should give you an IP address, make a note of this. Open your Internet browser and type in the IP Address of the VOIP841 into the address bar. The Internet browser will show the internal Internet page of your device. Login with the following username and password:
Username: philips
Password: voip841

After logging in please navigate to the “Skype” menu option in the left side menu. On this page y ou can type your Skype username and password. Once they are filled in save your settings and test on the handset if everything is working.

VOIP841 will not register

Probably there is typo when entering user name or login. Check and see perhaps there are some unnecessary spaces in user name or password.
Also make sure internet connection is on and working + router is configured to accept new connection.

Can not get the voicemail to work no matter what I try

I have skype-in and voice mail too, but don't use either. Instead, I go through, which provides my phone number and voicemail services - forwards calls to whatever phones, cell or skype, that I set it to. I won't run down the list of features, but grandcentral is a great solution to so many telephony problems, and it's FREEEEEE!

Yes, If your phone supports SIP then you should be able to program any service provider. On the other hand if this is a Skype only phone then you will not be able to use it with any other service besides Skype because they use a non-standard protocol.
I tried looking up your phone and the closest I came was :

This says in the Tech Specs that it is voip client and softphone compatible (whatever that means). It doesnt say it is SIP compatible. So look up the user manual and if it says that your phone is SIP compatible then you should be able to program any VOIP service provider (90% of them are SIP based) but if all the manual mentions is Skype and nothing else, then you might be out of luck.
Hope that helps!
