That will not be a timing problem. Most probably centre needle position has not been selected when using the straight stitch foot

SOURCE: changing needle/thread

Yes, you have to remove the walking foot, the threading mechanism does not have electronic recognition of different feet so when you add a foot that has a different fitting you will have to remove it to self thread.

SOURCE: What foot do I use with the twin needle?

You need to use the zig zag or satin stitch presser foot with the twin needle. You also need to make sure you have the zig zag plate on your machine. Also, remember when using the twin needle, you cannot put your stitch width beyond half way. The best thing to do is once you select the width, turn the handwheel to see where the needle is going to hit, you want to make sure it clears the plate or it will break.

Check your owners manual.

Sounds like your tension is too tight and the thread is pulling your needle. Also, make your that you needle position button is on center. If it is on left or right it will cause your needle to snap.

I had that same problem and it was due to the thread being too tight. Put the thread net on your thread and it should be ok.
