open the top of the vacuum. remove ONLY the filter element. There should be a ball about a two inch diameter inside the cage. It's purpose is to shut off the vacuum flow when water reaches a high in the canister.

I'm afraid you'll need to take it apart. the switch is mounted in a plastic holder in the top. While you got it apart and without it plugged in, check to see that both brushes are touching the commutator. there should be sufficient spring tension to hold the brushes against the spinning part [commutator] if even one brush isn't making contact it won't spin.

SOURCE: burned out motor on QPL625 Shop Vac

well if you can find the motor ( find a place that deals with the manufacturer directly so you get the right part ) and it isnt to expensive, most shop vacs are pretty easy, if you look under the top you should see about four screws, remove those and the top should come of giving you access to the motor, take note about the wires and what they hook up to. i doubt the motor is fastend down other than that.

SOURCE: craftsman shop vac no power when turn on

I just picked up a similar model someone was throwing away. turns out there is a thermal fuse inside the motor housing that blew. I just need to find the values of the fuse and repalce with appropriate size. motor runs when fuse is bypassed.

Hi, I know on my Craftsman shop vac 2 different sizes of vacs that I use, I try and stick to the craftsman filters, but you can use other brands if they are not available or you want to save some ( $ ) ? As far as a manual for this vac, more then likely you will have to go to the maker and distributor as Sears, O.C.Hardware also sell there products. You may have to go with a manual that is the same peak H.P.and gallons that covers all different makes and models. Filter wise, make sure you have the right ones on or off when using the wet or dry pick-up settings.

check the suction hose where it bends down to the floor unit,, lots of times dirt, hair and stuff collects there when the filter was plugged up. remove the floor plate ( like you were going to change the belt ) and use a wire coat hanger to run up the suction hose and back out and clean out any debris, also check the entire hose for blockage ( top to bottom ). if this is all clear and you still have little suction - then the problem could be the vacume motor itself and you will need to take the unit into the repair shop and have the motor rebuilt or replaced.

i would start by inspection of the filter could be plugged up or even missing, try removing it and running it has noise changed ?if not it would seem like maybe your neighbor used it with out filter and vacuumed up cement or aggressive particles causing motor damage.

you might have a leak on the suction side...perhaps the housing is not properly secured, or there is a **** in the black plastic hose.

Getting no suction

Check the hose for a clog, when suction is low, you will usually find a clog in the hose or in the dirt inlet by the brush roll. If this is less then a year old, then it is still in warranty, if you can't figure it out, then take it and proof of purchase to a warranty repair shop.

There is either a blockage or a pipe is open somewhere. You should check the system at the wall valve without the hose to determine if the pipes are blocked or if perhaps the hose is plugged. If one of the wall valves is damaged or open, this will affect the whole system. Some times, there is painting or renovations taking place in the home and a valve has been removed during the work. I have seen this many times. All valves must be in place and closed for the system to function properly. I have also seen garage valves held open by storage boxes, etc. and they are overlooked because they don't get used often and in some cases, the home owner doesn't even know they are there.
If you turn the machine on with the switch on the side of the unit, observe the sound of the machine. If the motor races, then the pipes are closed (no breaks). If the motor runs normally, you have an opening somewhere. The same thing applies to the valves. If you turn the machine on and the motor races even when a valve is opened, then you have a blockage, but if the motor doesn't change when a valve is opened, then the pipes are compromised.
I hope this helps. Let me know.

Dyson DC07 hose has no suction

Just resolved the same problem...couldn't find a blockage anywhere, but pulled handle out of hose and extended hose as far as possible upward. Aha! There was blockage in the hose at the very bottom where the flexible hose meets the rigid part.. There is a lever which releases the entry to the bottom of the hose. A pencil, lots of coins, a crumpled receipt and general dirt were stuck. Easy to clean and now it works like new again.

Dirt devil mvp not sucking

Could be bad filters, is there suction at the end of the hose. That will tell you which direction to start looking. If no suction at hose end, then filters could be the problem. If you have suction, then the problem is down lower, dirt inlet is clogged, if belt has never been changed, then I am sure it has stretch to the point that under load it doesn't turn like it should. Could even be that although the motor is running, it may be running at a slower speed, in which case it would have to be replaced.
