1.Connect the Ac adapter to a known good power outlet. Check the Power LED indicator on AC adapter (without plugging into the Notebook). We are only checking the power AC adapter to see if that is working.
2.If LED on the AC adapter is not lit (when unplugged from notebook), reseat the AC adapter brick and cable. If still there is no light on AC Adapter replace AC adapter and Power cord.
3.If LED on the AC Adapter goes off only after connecting to Notebook, the issue is with the motherboard. Replace Motherboard, DC-In port (AC adapter connector).
4.If the AC Adapter LED is always ON, take a technician's help and reseat the Power Button Board. You can refer to the Service Manual for details on how to reseat the Power Button Board. (NOTE: Before the notebook chassis is opened ensure all the power connections including battery and external devices are disconnected)
The power cord to the system uses a sensing pin (Small wire in center of the plug) to ID the AC adapter. If the pin is broken or bent, then the system cannot ID the Adapter. If the adapter is intact then the issue is the power connection on the motherboard.
In either case, if the system doesn't ID the adapter the battery charger is disabled.
If available, try a different Dell D-Series adapter. If no change, then replace the motherboard.
If you are not using a Dell Branded power cord, the system will give an error due to non-Dell AC adapters do not have the sensing circuit needed for the system to ID the adapter.
If you are using Dell Branded replacement AC adapters, then you most likely have a bad power connector on the motherboard.
The female power pin on the motherboard is probably loose and not making connection with the power cord. In that case, you would need to take it to someone that knows how to solder it back onto the board.
Looks like you have some issues with the port on the motherboard where the AC adapter is plugged in. Try another AC Adapter cord in, if still the same, then call up Dell to have the motherboard replaced.
