Chk if you are able to ping the router ( Start - Run - cmd - ping ip address of the router ) . IF you can do this when you are wireless, you will know if your card is communicating with the router.
Alternatively, carry your laptop to any hot spot to chk if its the wireless card in your laptop or your router thats causing the trouble. Atleast you can isolate teh issue with this.

i having the same problem
I have deplugged the router and working from the modem to my desktop computer, which does not work whilst the router is pluged in.
I have de-plugged the router to enable me to use the internet on my desktop computer via the modem.
Is there anything I can do so that I can use the internet on my laptop and desktop computer without de-plugging?
My wireless router and MacBook Pro worked fine. Then the computer battery got low and when I recharged it, the computer won't connect with the router. It says an error occurred when trying to connect to the Belkin 45 network. When i did the diagnostics, it asked for a security password, but I've never had one. And it won't let me set one.
btw, the router is only a month old.
Thanks Katrina a heap! Sounds like me with my Belkin, but now it seems to be working------keep my fingers crossed! Hard typing that way.....LOL
I know it is not my airport card. Both my laptop and imac desktop say strong signals. I am writing this on my daughters ether net. I can get it to work sometimes and then it wont. Very frustrating! Unplug getting good signal just wont connect. Tries to get through to Safari but gets stuck. What the heck I am going crazy. I had it working last night. Blue cord in blue port 3 other white in 1 worked fine last night on imac desktop with airport card but not laptop but not my daughter's mini mac which i am writing on right now works fine, last night no working for hers last night.
