SOURCE: Windows Boot Manager message: Windows encountered

Make sure there is nothing attached to the laptop,remove all devices like keyboard,mouse, flash drives and retry. If still having same error flip the laptop over and remove the battery and open up the 2 other compartments that have a screw holding them. One holds the memory modules and the other the hard drive, check and re seat all connections, then try again. If you still have the same error your hard drive is most likely failing,
Thanks for using FixYa

I have a inspiron i1011-26600bk and its telling me a message that says Loading PBR for descriptor 2...done. What should I do?

"Loading PBR for descriptor 2 ... failed" would be the exact error message if the MBR is unable to load the partition boot record for the second partition. There may be more, but here are three possible causes:
1) the partition table is corrupted so that the descriptor points to the wrong place (i.e., says the partition is one place when it's really somewhere else);

2) the partition table descriptor points to the right place, but the boot record there is corrupted or has been erased;
3) The hard disk is failing and having trouble reading the sector with the boot record.

To check (1), visit and download the dsrfix utility. In short, if dsrfix reports a clean bill of health, then (1) isn't the problem.

To check (3), run hard disk diagnostic tests. Press F12 when the machine is starting and see if the bios boot menu offers you a hard disk diagnostic test that you can run. Or even better, if you know the brand of the hard disk, most manufacturers should have a free diagnostic utility you can download to test the hard disk.

If it's not (1) or (3), then use Ctrl+F11 to run the Dell restore utility to recreate the Windows partition.

Need to acess the bios to reset the comp to factory out of the box condition, did it before cant' remember how

Try Alt and F10 as it boots up. If not then you need to go into Safemode (F8) In the advanced options there under system restore there should be the option to restore the factory default installation.This will delete your data; backup any necessary files first.

Windows will not start/run.

Try tapping the F8 key while starting up the computer to see if it will start in safemode. If the computer will not start in safemode you may have a failed hard drive that needs to be replaced. If you do get the computer to start in safemode backup all your data and then perform a CHKDSK (check disk) on your hard drive by right clicking on your c drive and going properties and then to tools then checkdisk.

Cannot acess hard disk partitions?

Hi, I hope you are using Windows XP and you have partitioned the disk properly.
Goto Control Panel> Administrative Tools> Computer Management> Disk Management
Now you should see all the disks and partitions in each disk and partition names of each partition. Right click the parition and you get all options to do.
Note: Be careful not to mess with C:  partition. Try to stay away from it.
