To digitally reprogram a LA40R81BD tv the web instructions are to press info-menu-mute in relatively quick succession to bring up a service menu and then to select 12....or to turn it off at the plug and then turn on again to bring up the menu. In my case nothing happens? What would you advise...I.e. Paying an $85 a service call to have it reprogrammed is excessive. Your help would be appreciated.

Set TV to standby and press Info, menu, mute then power. The set should turn on with the service menu available scroll down until you select reset press right hand arrow next to enter and then enter. TV will turn off. When switched on it goes into Plug and Play mode to reset the analogue and digital tuner. Allow a full reset then you should be ok.

Solution that worked for me:
Beware: Although the process should be safe, it technically voids your warranty.
Enter the service menu:
1 - turn of tv with remote
2 - press and release in the following order on the remote: Info, Menu, Mute. Make sure remote is pointing at the tv
3 - turn on the tv from the remote
4 - you will see the service menu. using the down arrow on the remote
select the Reset option. Using the right arrow button at this point
will do a hard reset.
5 - Wait a few seconds, turn TV on
6 - you will have to rescan analogue and digital channel but it should be working now.

You could try setting the phone in "quad band" mode if you haven't done so already. I bought this phone in the UK and moved it to the USA and I had the same problem as you, until I discovered that the phone was in Dual Band mode for the European frequency bands.
To change to Quad Band, choose Settings ->Network Settings -> Network Mode and then Quad Band to see if this helps.

Sorry it took so long to answer you request for assistance. You must try to reset the remote control. To do this, first remove the batteries. Next press the television button continuously for about 1 minute. This is to drain the store power in the remotes microprocessor. You may have to do this more than once to drain all the stored power. After you have drained out the power of the remote, you can replace the batteries. The remote should be reset now and ready for use. If this does not solve the problem with function of the remote control, you may have a more serious problem with the button on the remote control. If this happens you can call the RCA customer support at this telephone number 1-800-645-4994. I hope this information helps you with your problem with the remote control. Thank you for using FixYa and have a nice day!
