1 Answer

How to repair an HP DM4-1265DX, that has a bad motherboard, without buying a new one ( don't want to buy new :laptop/motherboard/service repairs/ extended warranties?

Diagnosis from service repair says its a bad mobo., but I'm sure it can run still, even with a bad mobo.

Being an HP it probably has an issue with the GPU overheating if it won't boot/show a display etc. Replace the GPU solder and possibly the GPU as well.

Should that allow it to reboot?

That's the thing, it doesn't even boot, and that mobo is dead; by replacing the GPU, should that fix the issue?

If the GPU has become short ciruit where the solder has desoldered itself under the BGA chip, almost any issue can happen. I have repaired five of these ranging from poor/intermittant video to dead and won't boot. There are companies around with infra red desoldering machines that can replace the GPU after reballing it.

Obviously I cannot guarantee this repair as I have not seen the laptop.

The only time I've seen this in the past is when its a bad motherboard. This repair runs between $250 - $350. If your laptop is more than 3 or 4 years old, I recommend purchasing a new one instead.
If you want to be sure its the motherboard, call a computer repair shop and ask how much they charge for diagnostics. Most charge $20. Don't take it to a big brand name store like best buy or comp usa.

Burned video card & motherboard HP Pavillion 9000 series

There is some info here http://forums13.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?admit=109447627+1282336625646+28353475&threadId=1260549
Looks like you are looking at $400 for a replacement.
If that is the case, it would probably cost less to buy a new laptop/2nd user and sell your broken laptop on a site like ebay for repairs, plenty of people looking for replacement parts

Hope this is of some help, even if it is not the best of news.
Good luck

If my hp2133 motherboard is bad I do not know

I think it could be quite expensive to have a laptop motherboard replaced - you can buy new for around £350 - i would expect a repair to cost probably half of that if not more - it maybe worth calling HP service line and see if they can give you a price
are you sure the board is dead and it just does not need to have the vents cleaned out

Hi there , yes it is mother board problem. But $399 is really too expensive for 2 years old laptop. I suggest you buy a new updated laptop & take out the HDD from the old laptop. Visit a service center & tell them you want to make that HDD for external using purpose. They will fix it for you & maximum 30 $ they charged for it. So you get a updated laptop & your all old data with external HDD. Now why i suggest you for a new laptop. If you pay 399$ for motherboard then you can use it. But again if you feel some thing wrong in other parts then you go for buy that. Finally when you make a total cost you will see a new laptop prize. Hope you understand my meaning.
Thanks &waiting for your feedback.

I was told my motherboard for my HP DV9205US laptop is bad, when can I get this repaired?

Contact the manufacturer, and ask for the location of the Service Depot nearest to you, where a qualified and certified technician will make the necessary repairs.

Note that some HP notebook computers have been "recalled"
(between November 2007 and the present) due to overheating of the video-card, causing wide-spread problems.

Check HP's web-site, to see if your computer is one of the affected models; if so, HP will repair it for free.

No power; Mother Board is bad? Is there RE-call on this MB board? Exactly two years it went down! It did run very hot. Will it really cost about $700.oo? Do I need to take HP to legal? I can buy another...

Yup, it will be cheaper to buy a replacement (probably) than to try to replace the motherboard. There is an excellent chance you can put the old laptop drive in an external box with a USB cable to your new laptop.

You might want to see if the power supply is still working before you buy another laptop. Any volt meter will check it. Often a power jack can get damaged which is tedious to fix but cheaper than a motherboard replacement. Also make sure to try to boot it without a battery installed.

I HAD A BAD MOTHERBOARD & hp DID FIX IT. HOWEVER, 3 MONTHS LATER

If your laaptop is under warranty they must repair it for free of cost.
There are some known issues with dv 2000 model laptops.
Visit the below link:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01087277&lc=en&cc=us
If they charge, it is better to buy a new laptop instead of buying the motherboard for your notebook model.

Need mother board for HP Compaq nx6110

HP/Compaq motherboards are system specific rather than industry standard. The only way to obtain a new motherboard is to contact HP/Compaq or an authorized HP/Compaq repair center. If you are interested in a used board you can check places like ebay and see if anyone has the board for your system available. Hope this helps.

CAN U HELP ME WITH THIS?

It's odd that BestBuy did not send you're notebook back to HP for you but the BestBuy you are talking about is not in the USA.
The HP Pavilion DV2125NR. Bought December 2007 is still under warranty. Most laptops & desktops come with a one year warranty, unless you paied for an extended warranty. For the HP Pavilion DV2125NR, contact HP directly for a RMA. You will may have to pay for shipping to HP USA. Hp will ship back to you free. To contact HP.
You must first get a return material authorization number (RMA) by calling us at 1- (888) 999-4747. You can also call,
Customer Service http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/help.do?leftNavIndicator=customer%20service

The notebook bought in December 2006 is not within warranty, (Unless you bought an extended service). As you mentioned.
I would not trust the BestBut in Venezuela. It seems they may have stated bad boards just to get ridd of you.
It is alway best to talk directly to HP/Compaq customer service before making any decision.

Hope you find this information helpful.
Luck!
Mike
