Question about Hitachi Ultravision P50S601 50 in. Plasma HDTV
We power the TV off and back on until it turns on normal volume (sometimes takes 5-12 times powering on and off)

yes you have some few fan in the if they doesnt work it will hover heat thats could from the fan power voltage from the prower supply or the fan it self
you can try an external fan and blow the air on
the back panel in the aeration notch if it stand
thats your problem the circuit came over heat

I have similar problem with my 42hds69. What I did is unplug the tv and remove the cover and vacuum everything especially the fan and remove the power supply board and brush/vacuum the back side... careful about static so hold the metal frame while you're vacuuming. Reassemble everything... mine worked... and still working... Good luck.
