Yup, I have the same Vivitek 56" TV and the color wheel has gone up after about a year and a half. We were able to diagnose that it was the color wheel, but then we had the challenge of a) finding the part and b) finding someone who knows somethong about this TV. Vance Baldwin has the part. If Anyone has had any experience with this and can help us "do it ourselves' we would give it a shot, otherwise we think we found a local guy who might be able to do it. Thanks

FIXED it! It was the color wheel. Specifically the drive motor that comes with the color wheel. The part was $90 + s&h and if you can be careful to remember where everything plugs and screws back in, it's a snap to replace. Took my son about 20 min with me holding the flashlight.
Wow, what a difference! The old color wheel motor was much more difficult to turn than the new one.
Email me if you have questions or want more details (ewald.ken@gmail.com).
I was about to chalk it up to a really bad $2,000 mistake.
Cheers,
Ken

A follow-up. We replaced the lamp and basically tore the guts completely out. The humming is actually coming from the color wheel which is basically all sealed up. All the fans were fine. It's a very loud hum, that cranks up directly after the lamp is powered on. With the back open, I could see the big muffin fan running and the 2 fans on the power supply/controller box running as quiet as a church mouse. I can't imagine how much the color wheel component costs to replace. This was a very expensive experiment. Steer clear of Vivitek! What a POC!

Had the same problem for over a year now. Sad to say, we kinda just put up with it. The lamp burned out yesterday, I just ordered a replacement and we took the back cover completely off. There's a muffin fan (~5" square) right next to the lamp. I'm guessing that's the one making all the racket. I can't figure out how to remove it, it's got 4 plastic rivet-type snap in fasteners. I didn't see any other fans. My bet is that these fans are a dime a dozen (compared to the bulb).

We've had our Vivitek 51" TV for about a year and recently the loud humming started. We haven't found a solution. It seems like a lot of other people are having the same problem with this TV. The humming is driving me crazy.

It was the color wheel drive motor. $90 + s&h
Took about 20 min to replace. The top of the color wheel housing comes off with a couple philips head screws.
