SOURCE: Flash won't work

Check that your camera's not on the A530 recall advisory list:

SOURCE: Flash is not working

Check and snug tighten all the screws around the perimeter of the case. Canon digital elphs use some of the case screws as a safety switch to turn off the flash if missing (thus preventing electrical shock from the flash if the case is opened). If this doesn't correct the problem, then you may be experiencing more severe internal corrosion problems that you cannot fix yourself.

SOURCE: my flash has stopped working

Hi

Unfortunately you will either need to replace the flash unit... or if you're unlucky the main PCB. I don't think you will be able to do anything without either of those parts.

I have made my living running a digital camera repair business for several years now, wish I had better news for you about your camera. If we can help with the repair let us know.

Good luck: Darntoothysam com

SOURCE: My flash quit working

You are correct in saying that the bulb needs to be replaced. Take the camera to any camera shop and they will replace it for you.

The flash on my camera suddenly stopped working. Sometimes it flashes, sometimes it doesnt. Pictures look better when flash is OFF.

Hello. I also have the same problem as yours - about the flash not working so well. Have you ever gotten a solution to it? Oh, I also had the same camera, Kodak M531. Please tell me if you've already gotten a solution to it. Thank you.

I have a Canon Power Shot A720. Outdoor photos are beautiful. Indoor photos are always grainy/blurry...a lot of noise. I have tried the ISP feature but there are only two choices... 1. Auto or 2....

Hi Usually outdoor picture are good within small compact camera. They designed like that. But now your unit just have flash pcb defective. When flash function work, your picture will be good indoor. Regarding your flash unit would be brown fuse or replacement of flash unit. It is 50 and 50 chance. Your local repair shop would charge around $35 to 95 depend on what they really want to charge. Thanks and best regard!

Grainy pictures

If you are taking pictures in low-lighting conditions without flash, then the pictures will appear grainy. Set the ISO to a lower number (try ISO-100 to start with) and use the flash to compensate for low-light conditions.
This should improve the grainy appearance of your photos.

What image resolution should i be using for regular 4x6 prints i have a 10.1 megapixel camera, but my pics still look grainy

Your pictures should not be looking grainy. Are they printed grainy but look clear on your screen. If so then it's just your printer. Try forcing the flash in the highest resolution. If you video's are grainy too then there is possibly something wrong with your camera. Make sure your lens is really clean. Worst case your CCD sensor inside your camera could be bad. Hope not!

Grainy pictures and not sharp

These cameras were designed to be high sensitive to light. If the Flash is set for Auto Flash, the camera tends to use ISO 400 whether the flash is fired or not. This was done to increase the working range of the flash.
In order to change this setting please go into the Menu (Capture+ tab) and set the ISO for 64, 100 or 200 in order to reduce the graininess. However this will lead to slower shutter speeds in low light.

Not good photos indoors very grainy and bad light looking photos

Auto mode in poor lighting (generally always indoors without flash) sets high ISO, which produces ugly amount of noise (graininess). What you need is to keep the ISO under 200 by either:
Shooting well lit scenes, using flash etc.
or
Uusing one of the manual programs (M, S, A, P) and setting the sensitivity via the F-menu.

Grainy pictures at night

Hi

Low light without a flash will always cause grainy pictures unless you have a very high end camera that can shoot at very high ISO speeds like 6400 and up.

Try changing the camera from the green camera 'auto' setting to "P" and then press the Menu button (I think it's Menu) and look for the different mode settings. There should be one for Night or Night Portrait or similar, I can't recall Sony terms and I don't have one here to check sorry.

Your other option is to use the flash, try it with Red Eye turned on if possible.

Hope this helps.

Grainy Photos using Natural Light

Sounds like the 'shutter speed' as it was called is too fast.

Having problems with the flash\ blurred and grainy images

You should not use the flash for these shots (unless you connect a powerful external flash), it won't help you at this distance. You should use the shutter priority mode and experiment with shutter speed (no flash) to get the best result - for sports action it should probably be faster than 1/100 sec. If the light is too low you may use higher ISO setting - 200 or 400 (though higher ISO will result in grainier images, it may be your only option for blur-free photos).
