2.0gb sandisk micro format prblem

G'day iv just bought a 2.0gb sandisk card for my motorola V360 to upgrade from my 128mb(which works) I placed the card into the phone and nothing happend i went into storage devices to find out why, and recieved this message ''Card - Unformated'' i then tried formating it and i recieved ''Format failed'' ahhhhhhhh im pulling my hair out because I bought the card through a company that states the phone supports it and checked else where and other companies state the same. I then inserted the card through a card reader into my computer only to find that it works and my phone is in excellent condition. I would really like a solution, anything please!!!

Cheers

A SD card was purchased for my phone. I tried to format the card through my phone, only to find that it cannot be formated. I used my card reader to see if i could put anything on the card. The songs were stored to the SD card at one location and were stilll there at another. I've established that the SD card works, but, I cant format it to my phone,

    HELP!??!

    thanx :)

I just bought two MOTORAZR2 V9M cell phones and two Sandisk 2.0gb micro memory cards to go with them. Both of the cards give format errors in both phones. I called the cell phone company and they said not to put the cards into a computer. I will be seeing them tomorrow to see if they can find a solution.

ok from what i understand from Motorola that this phone the v360 is meant only to be compatible to a 512mb memory card however i scoured the internet and stumbled upon a forum that suggested that a 1gb sd card works fine so i have tried it now for 3 months in my v 360 with no problems i bought the card off ebay and still no worries

    all the best

ps:remeber dont fall the same trap i did! that a 2.0gb sd card and above will work in ur v360 it will not i know i was the sucker who paid the money to find out the hard way

About the only work-around to this problem that I've been able to figure out (other than just buying a smaller microSD card) is to partition you SD card (on your computer, like). This is because the V360 can't handle the bigger cards, the software wasn't written with these size cards in mind; In other words, the Motorola specs are lying.

You need to create 2 partitions, one about 1024MBmb (or 512MB if your card doens't like teh first one), the other the remainder on the card. You then need to null/delete one of them, thus leaving only 1 partition of 1GB. You'll want to make sure the file system is FAT32, with the Allocation Unit Size at 'default'.

This in effect, turns your 2GB card into a 1GB or 521MB card, and should let your phone read it properly.

Unfortunately, this is much easier to do in a Mac or Linux system, as Windows won't go in and do that sort of playing while it detects the card as a 'removable device'- though the dectection as removable media can also be changed with the appropriate app.

just a further update on the V360's specs, you'll notice the latest technical specifications on Motorola's site (Found HERE) List that the V360 only supports up to 512MB memory; this is changed from what some of the earlier spec sheets that went out had on them. You'll find the relevant info under the "Performance Features" heading:
TransFlash Removable Memory Slot:
    up to 512MB capacity
I have gotten mine to work with a 1GB partition, but not a 2GB one.

Try this, go to start, all programs, accessories, now RT click on command prompt and pick run as Admin.

Now type chkdsk G:

G is what ever the card shows as, in your PC, so if your card shows as E: then use E.

When it's done you will see C:\windows\system 32

Wait it might take a while.

Now type DiskPart

wait, you will see a few lines one says microsoft and when it's ready you will see it say

DiskPart> rescan

So after DISKPART> type rescan

Now try and delete everything from the card and do a quick format.

If this didn't work, you'll have to shell out 7.00 for a new card.

Hi,when you purchase a new micro SD card before use, youwill need to format the memory card so that you will be able to know the actual size of the Micro SD card by checking the details after formatting it.

After formatting the micro SD card and checking the details, if you still do not see the accurate size which is about 1.88mb or the about, that means the micro SD card you bought needs to be replaced. Not a good one.

Have a nice day.

Hello Dear

#1
Insert your ( memory card , flash disk , cellphone , .... ) into your computer.
#2
Open up 'My Computer'. You should see it under the list of available drives.
#3
Check its contents first to make sure that you have the right drive.
#4
In 'My Computer', right-click on the drive and choose 'Format'.
#5
Leave all the options as they are and click on 'Start'. This is a non-reversible process so make sure this is what you truly wanted to do in the first place.
#6
Once the process is completed, take the memory card out and insert it into your Digital Camera or any other device. Try to browse to it to make sure it works fine now.

Format the Card on the PC using FAT, after that use a CARDREADER and put these folders on the card: MOBILE and in the mobile folder put audio, video, kjava, picture, temp! Shutdown your Motorola, remove the backcover and plug-in the card! After that Start Your Motorola and copy a file from the mobile's memory on the CARD! It should work!
