I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH MY HP 8250 CAN ANYONE HELP

  • humbuzz Jan 22, 2009

I'd give this a 90% solve ratio, because after applying the Secret Handshake of the second section I the printer now functions perfectly.... except if I repower the unit, which gives the oxc18a0206  error again.  However, if it just goes to sleep, pressing the power button wakes it up with no problem.  Thanks for providing the fix, because I felt bad about throwing out a 2 yr old c7180 that has only printed 168 pages!

As Humbuzz said, the 2nd set of steps did the trick. I haven't shut it down to see if it occurs again, though (it's working now, I'm leaving well enough alone!) Thanks for the fix ;)

Perform the following steps :

1. Disconnect the Universal Serial Bus (USB) cable from the back of the product, but leave the product turned on.
2. Open the cover of the product and remove the print cartridges.
3. Close the cover and wait for the Insert Ink Cartridges message to display.
4. Disconnect the power cord from the back of the product and the wall socket, then wait for one minute.
5. Reconnect the power cord. If the product does not automatically turn on, press the Power button.
6. Open the cover and reinsert the print cartridges.
7. Close the cover. If prompted, print a calibration page.
8. Print a Self Test to verify product is functional.
9. Reconnect the USB cable, and try to print from the computer.
10. If the error is still there replace the unit

1. Get the unit into the “Support Menu” by following the steps below
A. - Press and hold the “*” key.
B. - Press the “#” key and release both keys.
Display should say “Enter Special Key Combo”
C. - Press and release in sequence the “1”, “2” and “3” buttons.
Display should say “Support” and display the FW rev (something like R0631R)
2. Press and release the right arrow button until the display says “System Configuration Menu”. (on C8100 use Touch Screen)
3. Press and release the “OK” button.
4. Display should say “Hardware failure status”. If not there already, Arrow Key over to “Hardware failure status”,
5. Press and release the “OK” button.
6. Display should say “Hardware failure status: Clear. Press OK to clear”.
7. Press and release the “OK” Button. Message changes to “Hardware failure status Cleared. Press Cancel to continue”.
8. Press and release the “CANCEL” button as many times as necessary, so that, either the “Welcome to Photosmart Express” screen appears, or, the “Ink System Failure” screen appears. PLEASE DO NOT TRY TO PRINT AT THIS STAGE.
9. Using the Power Button, turn the unit OFF and unplug the power cable from back of the printer and wall outlet.
10. Wait 30 seconds for the power to get discharged and then plug the power cable into the wall outlet first and then into the back of the printer
11. Turn the unit on. The printer may display message “USE POWER BUTTON TO SHUTDOWN THE PRINTER” followed by “PRESS OK TO CONTINUE”. Press OK.
12. If the printer has already initialized, then go to the next step. If not, the printer will start the “ONE TIME INK INITIALIZATION PROCESS”. Allow this process to complete and do not interrupt. Once the initialization process is complete, the printer will print out a Diagnostic Page.
13. To verify printer functionality print a SELF TEST PAGE. If SELF TEST prints, then printer is ready for use or Software Installation.
14. If the error is still there, or reoccurs replace the unit.

I thought I was going to have to throw away my 2nd hp printer (the first time they got me to buy the upgrade). This series of steps reset my printer after a scary "Ink System Failure". THANKS a million, FixYa! NO THANKS to HP customer "support".

  • sqlsusan Feb 18, 2011

Thanks a million - it fixed my HP7180 ink system failure. Unfortunately, my new Kodak printer will be delivered today. I searched a few days ago and could not come up with a good answer. I will print this solution and have a spare printer.

problem is same, what part to replace

  • thanks2000 Mar 17, 2011

Thanks, Saved me buying a new printer! This was only 2.5 years old.

  • elizabeth553 May 01, 2011

IMHO, saleka is nothing short of a genius. Thank you soooooooo much for saving my printer. I spent 2 days trying to fix this problem but, not being the most tech savvy person, I was running short on ideas and patience. When I saw this prescription I thought it would be complicated and time consuming but w/in a couple of minutes (inclusive of power down and initialization) my printer was up and running again.

I am planning to move soon, so the last thing I wanted to do was invest in a new printer at this time and the second to last thing I wanted to do was have to manage for a couple of months w/o a printer.

    Thank you again, saleka

Remarkable, I am a tenant in a new house where a C7180 was left in the corner and I was convincingly inofrmed that the printer was finished. Upon applying the second set of correction instructins above it is working just fine, well done.

For an HP 8180 access the resets page by pressing the Cancel, red eye removal and Print Photos button. Then use the touch screen to move around the menus.

Thank you to this printer repair guru who helped me repair an "Ink System Failure" message on HP Photosmart All in One C6180 and saved me potentially hundreds of dollars in repair or replacement. I thought that the hardware was actually Ok as the power cord was loose and appeared to start the problem in the first place, but what this post showed was that simple resetting procedures didn't clear the error, you had to follow the procedure above to reset it.

Have bought HP Photosmart c6183 from UAE, where it used to work on 177 cartridge. Shifted to Singapore but cannot find a compatible cartridge. 02 Cartridge is compatible with same series but printer says...

Sorry, only a 177 will work. HP is very specific with their cartridges. There are many web sites that will refil this cartridge for you. They send you the newly refilled one and you put yours in the package they sent theirs in for a credit when they get it back to their facility. At least it will be a 177.

Changed cartridge--now paper gets stops by cartridge carrier. turned on and off, reinstalled cartridge, cleaned roller.

Press the OK button.
- If paper is being fed at error occurrence, the
error is indicated after the paper is ejected.
- If the error occurs, the print head alignment
values are not changed.
- After exit from the error by the OK button,
the automatic print head alignment will not
be re-done.
The error will occur when the print head
alignment pattern is not printed due to no ink
or non-ejection of ink.

Error:Oxc18a

The ISF and similar errors can be reset by following instructions at: http://www.inkbank.com.au/webcontent21.htm
It may not work with all models, but worth a try.
If under warranty, hp will usually replace the printer.
good luck...

Error how to fix

Hi,

U might try the following reset however it might not help as it seems to be an issue with the hardware of the unit .it would be better if u cal Hp Support Center at 1800 474 6836 to get it replaced.

Perform a semi-full reset on the all-in-one by following the steps below

1
Take out the cartridges from the unit .
2
Make sure the unit is connected to the wall jack directly without any surge protector.
3
Unplug the power cord from the back of the unit ( without turning off the unit ) .
4
Now press the # and 6 key together , while holding these keys down plug in the power cord back into the unit .
5
Do not release the keys after a few seconds u will find te hp logo or bars moving across the screen .wait while the unit turns off.
6
after one minute turn on the prnter . it will go into alligment phase > let it finish .
7
Allow the all-in-one to re-initialize. This may take a minute or two.

8
If prompts appear in the all-in-one display to set the front panel language and country settings, perform the steps to set this information

Thanks
