I have a side by side whirlpool refrigeratror. One of the doors was not closed completed yesterday for about 12 hours. I found it our last night. I closed the door. But the motor seems running whole night last night. this morning I turned off the whole thing, emptied the freezer side, waited for about two hours to get all ice melted. Then I restarted it. It's been running for 3 hours now without stopping. Is there anything wrong?

Keep an eye on the running time and temparture of the refrigerator. It will need time to return to normal cooling temps since the defrost and hot temps inside will take maybe a few more hours to reach normal. I have a 2000 whirlpool frost free frig. although my house is always cool, all of a sudden the frig is running a lot. My electric bill has been unusually high to boot, so I am wondering if this is the problem.
I have cleaned the grate which was gunked up with dog hair and other fuzzies but it is still running more often.

it turns off and on frequently, what's going on? is this something I need to worry about. I have turned down the temp, below recommended setting. Other than running frequently it seems to be keeping everything frozen and cold
I'm having the same problem. The motor keeps running and running without the defrosting time. The refrigerator is 12 years old, I know it could probably be the age of the refrigerator, but it was working so great a couple days ago and all of a sudden it went berserk. Any suggestions?
I picked up an older Whirlpool fridge, it freezes and cools but it wont stop running unless I turn it off. As soon as I move the thermostat it starts up again. Could it be the thermostat?
