Could be a fuser problem, but could also be very poor quality toner cartridge(s). If a remanufacturer/compatible maker uses the wrong toner powder, it can have the wrong characteristics.

I've seen these printers with poor quality cartridges able to print a page with very little toner coverage OK, but jam EVERY page that has much real 'density' of toner. Even the configuration page on these printers has a solid band of red 5mm or so wide across the lower part of the page. Poor toners - where the fusing temperature is incorrect for this printer will cause the page to jam in the same place in the fuser EVERY TIME.

The cure - Genuine Xerox toners, or GOOD QUALITY remanufactured toners from a reputable source.

Why does my 6280 separate one image into two and print it?

Poor fusing of the toner onto the paper is caused by

1. Poor quality compatible/remanufactured toner cartridges that have the wrong toner in them. - Use OEM, or better quality independent toners (and complain to your current supplier about the ones you have)

2. Damp media - high moisture content in the paper prevents correct fusing. You'll probably see the paper 'steaming' as it comes out if this is the case. - Keep your paper dry, only load as much as you need.

3. Thicker than normal media. The thicker the paper, the longer/more heat it takes to fuse the toner. - Make sure you have the correct paper type set in the printer driver at print time.

4. Faulty fuser. Normally the printer will report if the fuser is not reaching the correct temperature, but there are instances when this does not happen. Also it is possible for the fuser heat lamp to blacken partially, resulting in an area of the fuser that does not reach the correct temperature. This problem will affect an area of the page which consistently (same place, and all the way down the page) shows poor fusing. - Replace the fuser.

When I use card stock on my Xerox 6180 printer the toner doesn't always stick to the paper

1 You need to make sure the weight of the media is within the limits set by the manufacturer. You can probably get away with a bit heavier, but not much heavier.

2 You need to make sure that you choose the correct media/paper type in the printer driver. The thicker the media, the longer it takes for the heat to 'soak' through to the toner side. choosing the correct media type slows the transport through the fuser (or increases the temperature - depending on the printer type - so that correct fusing can take place.

3 Excessive moisture content can cause fusing issues like this.

4 Remanufactured, or 'compatible' toner cartridges that have the WRONG or poor quality toner powder also cause fusing problems that can even bee seen on 80gsm paper, but will be obvious on thicker media. There ARE good remanufactured toner cartridges, but if a toner cartridge is very cheap, it ;s LIKELY to have poor toner powder in it (the correct toner powders are 2-3 times more expensive than the cheap stuff).

5 Finally it IS always possible that the fuser just isn't getting up to temperature properly. This can be caused by a failed heat lamp - with age the can blacken in patches, 'holding back' the heat.

I have black smudgy lines going down the left hand side of my printed copies. What do I do?

1. Check the toner level, when it's low the quality of the prints becomes poor.
2. If toner level is good, clean out the printer inside. The best way is to buy an air compressed can, get the printer in an open space and blow any toner from the inside of the printer. Give it a good clean as there might be residual toner inside that make the poor quality.

That means that you have to clean copy glass , lenses, ccd,...maybe even laser unit if you know how.
On digital machines dirty optics means light copy, on analog oposite, dirty optics dark copies.

Just one more question how do you mean " charge toner"?

Poor print quality toner flaking and coming off stock

Have you tried fresh paper directly out of the package? Once you open a package of paper it immediately begins to absorb moisture out of the air.The toner wont bond well to the paper. If you send the same sheet of paper back through themachine(copying the other side of course)and it copies properly then you have moisture in your paper. The final element in the process is the fuser, which operates at about 350 degrees fahrenheit. It literally cooks the moisture out of the paper.when you send it through for the second time the toner will bond properly.

If you have the old drum put it back in and see what happens to the copy. if is better, then yu may have a bad new drum. They do have them. Poor copy quality is normally drum or toner in these Brothers. This model is an excellent machine by the way.
