Question about Creative Labs ZEN SLEEK MP3 Player

Not rebuilding Library all the way

Last night I turned on my Zen Sleek Photo, and all of a sudden it just froze up right after the logos. I had trouble with it freezing up before so I just hit the reset button like usual, then about halfway through the rebuilding it just goes to the now playing area and about 2000 songs are gone... I know they're in there somewhere because the information says 2.9 GB remaining and only 100 something tracks. I tried to plug it in the computer today and my computer won't even acknowledge that it's connected but the player says it's docked.

I usually delete songs off my computer after syncing and also a lot of songs were already on there since my cousin gave it to me for christmas (without the software) but it's been doing fine for a while.

One time before it delete some songs, but it was only 100 or so and they were all on my other MP3 player so that was no problem. I looked through here and tried one suggestion of resetting then powering down and charging it, but I held the power button down throughout all the logos and it didn't work.

I hope someone can help me figure this out, otherwise I'll have to try and get back all those songs. Thanks in advance

    I'm having the same problem. For a while, my zen sleek has been rebuilding the library and stopping half way through every time I turn it on. It stops half way through and and I get a screen saying "Select music to PLAY from the Music Library." It seems a nice amount of my songs are gone, but I can still play the songs up there.

    When I try to hook it into my computer (Ubuntu 6.06 Dapper Drake) it doesn't detect it as anything... well... useful. When I open the device manager I see a tree for Creative Zen Sleek with "USB Interface" and "USB Raw Device Access" in its tree. I don't believe there is anything suspicious about the device info to the right. Any ideas? Need anymore specs?

    I am also having this problem. Player was working fine, then after one housekeeping session with my software, the library simply won't rebuild all the way. I get the same "Select music to PLAY" message.

    Mine does the same thing its fine and when i plug it into the computer it says there is no device so i take it off and when i try to play a song it says select music to play from the music library. then i take the battery out and it rebuilts and it seems okay and just when i plug it back in it does the same thing...How can i fix this?

  • diecreative Dec 26, 2007

    exactly the same problem ´´select music to play from library`` message, computer no longer recognises it and its deleted loads of songs.. somebody, anybody.. i am so annoyed, ive only had it for two months, tried everything its knackered.. somebody anybody help me before i hurt someone

  • tonlis1 Jan 13, 2008

    Same problem here. mine worked fine had about 1200 songs on it (8 gb of 20 gb used). Plugged it in to recharge it. When i powered it up it went to rebuild the library it just gets started and then freezes. Stays there for about a min or two then goes to "select music to play", only problem is none of my music is showing up. I go to the player information screen and it still shows approx 8 gb used but 0 songs or photos. When i tried to hook up to my laptob it now will not recognize the player even though the screen on the player says "docked".

    Help....

  • Narrwald May 21, 2008

    Same problem... My computer and Zen froze while I was syncing music to it, and upon resetting, the library only rebuilds about 1/5 of the way before showing the "select music" screen. My playcounts all seem to be -1, my computer won't acknowledge that the Zen is plugged into to it. (But the Zen shows the typical "docked" screen when plugged in, and the computer makes the "USB device attached" sound when I plug it in.)

    This sucks, this MP3 player has served me well for the past two years...

    Tried "Clean Up"option.
    The player wouldn't turn on with the play button depressed. I depressed the play button and hit the emergency reset. I then selected "Clean Up" from the recovery mode menu.
    Didn't work. Still only loads halfway. Now what?

    Hi there,

    I was recharding the battery when the " Re-building Library poped on the screen and I cannot even charge it or play any songs from it.

    Can somebody please help me on how to get it out of my screen.

    Thanks

SOURCE: zen sleek photo doesnt rebuild library all the way

ok, first you will need to let it rebuild as far as it will go without interuption. Then once it gets stuck... take a a clothes pin or a real slim piece that will fit into the reset hole. The reset button is near where you would normally plug it in for data transfer or power supply. Now your player will restart, you shouldn't lose any infomation at all by doing this. After you do this, you need to try and press the power button so you can power the system down. If you are able to power the system down, that is good... then after it is off, you will need to plug it into your computer to charge... or plug in your wall charger in order to charge the system. Once plugged in... leave on charge over night. The next day... unplug the system from the power supply. Try to let it sit for a few moments before you do anything to it... After letting it sit, try powering it on... If it starts to try to rebuild the library, then while it is doing so, lay it on a desk and do not move it until done. After that... if it comes on as normal... it is fixed. However, this is a problem I have had with mine too! So if it does not work after that... you may try to contact me at brianmaggie12@msn.com Thanks and I hope I was able to help you with your Creative product!

My Creative zen Sleek Photo is frozen

Hi,

Initially, would suspect that the hang or froze. A couple of ideas that you can try:
double check that the unit is fully charged;
  • do a rest. There would be a reset button inside a small hole, you can use a dull pin, straightened paperclip or even a toothpick;
  • verify that the "Hold" is disable/disengaged;
  • access the Recovery Mode. Press and hold the Play/Pause button while doing the reset as above described;
  • there would be several options. You can try all except Reload OS/Firmware;
  1. Clean Up is scans and remove invalid music library;
  2. Format (All) erases everything saved;
  3. Reload OS/Firmware would be a last resort;
  4. Reboot will restart the device.
  • Should it be a battery issue that will not hold a decent charge, you can replace it. Pls follow instructions from here;
  • If all else fails, reload the firmware. Pls reference the Creative website for instruction and latest update.
Just a start, do postback how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

Zen Sleek Photo shows not connected>

Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.
Clicking, though, normally indicates a hardware issue - call manufacturer to see if you are eligible for replacement.

Been frozen for about a week

You have to hit the reset button. You stick the end of a small paperclip or even the wire part from those garbage bag twist-ties into the reset button which is the hole on the bottom of the player. As you push the paperclip into hole you must hold down the PLAY button. This should put it into the Recovery screen or else it will just say "Rebuilding Library". If it goes into the Recovery screen you select CLEANUP and then YES. After it goes through cleanup which can take forever then it will will usually reboot on its own or if it goes back to recovery screen hit REBOOT after you have done CLEANUP.
