Network security key
Some later model wireless routers have the Password (ie.Encryption key) and the SSID already configured in the wireless router and this information is printed on a label on the bottom of the router.
These settings can be used to configure the wireless card and wireless adapters in your computer/laptop.
If these settings do not suit you, then it can be changed to suit your requirements.
The encryption key secures your data and wireless connection from unauthorized access. To configure the wireless settings in the router, connect a LAN cable from your computer to the wireless router, then open a Browser on your computer and enter the router's configuration IP address, then enter the admin login and password and then go to the wireless settings and configure the SSID and Encryption key.
The router's encryption key can be a Passphrase or the WEP or WPA or WPA2 key.If you use the Passphrase method select either WEP or WPA or WPA2 to generate the encryption key. You can enter the WEP or WPA or WPA2 key with 8 to 63 ASCII characters or 64 Hex digits.
Most people use Passphrase which is easier to remember eg. I was born in January 1988.
The strongest and latest security is WPA2, the weakest and oldest is WEP. To connect to your wireless router from the computer/laptop, configure the wireless card in your computer/laptop with the router's wireless settings ie SSID, plus the WPA or WPA2 encryption key. Then computer/laptops can communicate with your wireless router. http://www.fixya.com/support/r10267861-network_security_key

I have a Roku in my bedroom & when I try to watch Netflix it just spins & spins & takes forever to load. Once it starts, it stops & starts spending again.

First step, of course, is to unplug the Roku for 10 seconds then plug it back in again and let it connect.

Assuming a Wi-Fi connection is what you are using, it is possible (likely) that your Roku is too far from the Wi-Fi router. Your best solution is to relocate the Wi-Fi router closer to your Roku, or to get a signal booster to extend the range of your Wi-Fi signal.

On a more technical note, your Wi-Fi router may be broadcasting on a channel that has lots of conflict with other Wi-Fi signals in your neighborhood. Changing the broadcast channel requires that you have an administrator login to your router and can make changes. You might have to call your service provider and have them make the changes for you (if you smile right over the phone, they may give you your router's login information, but don't count on it). Best channels to select are generally 1, 6 or 11 to avoid overlap with other channels.

If you have a smart phone and can download an app, look for a Wi-Fi Analyzer app (free). This will show you the other signals around you, what channel they are broadcasting on, and the strength of the signal.

HOW TO CHANGE THE INTERNET SETTINGS IN THE HTC WILDFIRE A3333

Wi-Fi provides wireless Internet access over distances of up to 100 meters (00 feet).

To use Wi-Fi on your phone, you need access to a wireless access point or "hotspot". The availability
and range of the Wi-Fi signal depends on the number, infrastructure, and other objects
through which the signal passes.

Turning Wi-Fi on and connecting to a wireless network
From the Home screen, press MENU, and then tap Settings > Wireless & networks.
Select the Wi-Fi check box to turn Wi-Fi on. The phone then scans for available wireless
networks.

Tap Wi-Fi settings. The network names and security settings of detected Wi-Fi networks
are displayed in the Wi-Fi networks section.
If the wireless network you want to connect to is not in the list of detected networks,
scroll down the screen, and then tap Add Wi-Fi network. Enter the wireless network
settings, and then tap Save.

Tap the Wi-Fi network you want to connect to.
If you selected an open network, you will be automatically connected to the network.
If you selected a network that is secured with WEP, enter the key and then tap
Connect.

Depending on the network type and its security settings, you may also need to enter more information
or choose a security certificate.
When your phone is connected to a wireless network, the Wi-Fi icon appears in the
status bar and tells you the approximate signal strength (number of bands that light up).
The next time your phone connects to a previously accessed secured wireless network, you
will not be prompted to enter the key or other security information again, unless you reset
your phone to its factory default settings.

Why does my moto G from US Cellular get poor signal now that I switch my plan from the $50 plan to the $60 plan

Cellular Signal Boosters / Repeaters

Your cellular carrier can provide you with a "signal booster" device that can repeat and boost a cellular signal you already get in your house. For example, if you consistently have one bar of coverage but no more at home, a booster can take that one bar and turn it into more bars. If you have one or two bars of coverage near a window but no coverage elsewhere in your home, a booster near that window can capture the signal and boost it, providing a strong signal throughout the rest of your home.
Some carriers offer such devices very inexpensively - $50 or maybe even free - especially if you're in an area where they know they know they have poor coverage. T-Mobile now offers such boosters for only a $25 deposit, which you can get back just by returning the booster to them.
Contact your carrier - or look at their website - to see just what they'll offer you and for how much.

Femtocells / Microcells

A femtocell - or "microcell" - is a small, low-power cellular base station that connects to the cellular network via your broadband Internet connection. Essentially, it's a small cellular signal tower that will provide a signal in and near your home, connecting to the larger mobile network over your Internet connection. This makes it ideal for situations where you don't even have a signal bar of coverage you can boost at home. The only "catch" is that your Internet connection must have a high enough download speed. Different carriers require different minimum speeds, but you should be fine as long as you have a solid broadband connection.
Ask your cellular carrier if they offer this sort of product and find out how much it will cost you. As with boosters and repeaters, a femtocell may be available at a steep discount from your carrier in areas they know they have poor cellular service.
You can also buy them easily on Amazon or almost any decent tech store - for instance the one pictured below works for AT&T and supports LTE (though it is a bit pricey), or you can get one that supports Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, Sprint, Cricket, and many others, but you won't get LTE support. Of course, since you likely have Wi-Fi in your house, LTE isn't really a big deal and the 3G will work just fine for calls and texts.
Editor's Note: For the official How-To Geek office we got a Samsung microcell device directly through Verizon, which wasn't cheap, and doesn't work all that well. And since it only works for Verizon, any of the people who come by who use other carriers have zero signal, which is really annoying. If we could do it over again, we'd have started with this zBoost microcell that supports virtually every cell provider and has many different models and options to choose from depending on the size of the house. They even have an optional antenna you can install on your roof to give cell coverage everywhere around your house. It's the best choice, and cheaper than most carriers will offer you.

Wi-Fi Calling and SMS

Wi-Fi calling is a feature you might remember from some years ago, but it's coming back with a vengeance. At the moment, in the US, only T-Mobile offers Wi-Fi calling for both Android phones and the iPhone. Sprint only offers Wi-Fi calling for select Android phones. AT&T and Verizon have announced plans to activate Wi-Fi calling in 2015.
Essentially, WI-Fi calling allows your smartphone to receive and place calls and communicate via text messages over a Wi-Fi network. Your home probably has Wi-Fi, so Wi-FI calling will let you use your existing wireless router instead of needing a new, specialized device. You can just improve your Wi-Fi signal strength, and all your devices will benefit!
Wi-Fi calling works transparently. When your phone is on Wi-Fi and has a poor cellular signal, it will connect to the Wi-Fi network and your phone calls and text will be sent and arrive over the Wi-Fi network. When you leave the Wi-Fi network, your phones and calls will be sent over the cellular network as usual. This is all designed to hand-off automatically, so you could start a phone call on your Wi-Fi network and your phone would automatically hand off to the cellular network as you walk out the door, with no interruptions.

WI-FI calling will also work on other WI-Fi networks, so it's helpful if you ever end up in another place where you have a poor cellular signal but have Wi-Fi. To use this, you'll need to ensure your phone has Wi-Fi calling support and that it's enabled. Android phones from T-Mobile and Sprint will often include this feature, so look up how to enable it on your specific model of Android phone.
The iPhone 6 has built-in Wi-Fi calling, although it currently only functions on T-Mobile. AT&T and Verizon plan to support it in 2015. To enable this feature on an iPhone, open the Settings screen, tap Phone, tap Wi-Fi Calling, and activate it.

WI-Fi calling seems to be the future goal the industry - T-Mobile, especially - is pushing towards. With Wi-Fi calling integrated into your phone, you don't need to buy a specialized device. Your home Wi-Fi router works. And, when you go somewhere else where you have a poor signal, all they need is a Wi-Fi network and you'll be able to get a phone calls and SMS messages through it.

Samsung Epic 4G Phone into a Wi-Fi Hotspot

The Samsung Epic 4G smart phone allows you to convert your phone into a Wi-Fi hotspot and connect up to five devices.
Such a set-up will keep you from running around searching for an area that offers free Wi-FI. If you're stuck in an airport or staying overnight at a hotel, you won't have to pay extra for Internet service.
You can connect your laptop or other media device to your phone's Wi-Fi network.

Press the "Home" button, which looks like the outline of a house, on the bottom of your Samsung Epic 4G phone.
Click the "Menu" button to the left of the "Home" button.

Click the "Settings" icon, which looks like a gray box with a spoke in the middle.

Scroll through the list and click "Wireless & Networks."

Press "4G" until a check mark appears, indicating the 4G network is enabled.

Click the "Home" button.
The 4G icon will appear to the left of your signal bars in the upper-right corner of your screen.
The separate sets of bars above the 4G logo indicate the strength of your 4G signal.
When the bars above the 4G logo are completely gray and the 4G logo is white, you have a weak signal.
When you are no longer receiving a 4G signal, your 4G logo will be gray and a 3G logo will appear, indicating that the 3G network is now enabled. If both of the logos disappear, you are not receiving any signal.
You must have either a 3G or a 4G signal to use your phone as a Wi-Fi hotspot.

Enable Sprint Hotspot
Press the "Applications" icon, a blue box with four whites squares in it, in the lower-right corner of your Samsung Epic 4G phone.

Press the "Sprint Hotspot" icon, which looks like a phone with two signal bars on the right side, until a check mark appears to the right of the icon, signaling the Spring hotspot function is enabled.
A pass-key allowing you to connect other devices to the phone's network will appear on the screen.
Write the pass-key down.

Enable Wi-Fi on your laptop or other device that you want to tether to your Samsung Epic 4G phone.

Search for the Wi-Fi network affiliated with your Samsung Epic 4G phone.
The name of the network will begin with "SPH-D700XXX."
To change the name of the Wi-Fi network affiliated with your Samsung Epic 4G phone, press the "Menu" button; the "Settings" icon; and "Device Name." Enter the new name for phone's Wi-Fi network.

Click the network affiliated with your Samsung Epic 4G phone on the device you want to tether to your phone'ss Wi-Fii network.
Enter the pass-key, and click "OK."
Your device will now be tethered to the Wi-Fi hotspot on your Samsung Epic 4G phone.
