My compuer doesn't recognize acomdata

My computer does not read the USB port that my Acomdata External Drive is plugged into.

OK, 2 things to check. First and foremost, when you plug it into the PC does it make that nifty noise to let you know it sees a new piece of hardware?

Second, if it does, you probably need to initialize the disk. Hit the windows button, right click on computer, and select manage. Under the storage category highlight Disk management. If you see the drive there, you can right click and select initialize, or format. From there the system should see the drive.

One or more of the hints below will probably sort out most USB problems with most USB portable / external hard drives and OTHER devices (though not always)

A few things to check but assumes
USB and Windows for other interfaces / operating systems (mac/ Linux) similar steps may be adapted to suit.

1. Ensure it is connected directly to the computer to a
USB 2.0 port not a USB 1.0 port as this can have effects on performance and reliability

2. Use only the cables that came with it NOT one that fits that may have been lying around or is longer. Not all
USB cables are equal even though they should be)

3. Do not connect through an external
USB HUB unless that hub is USB 2.0 AND has its own power supply.

4. Use ONLY the power supply that came with it if it has an external power supply Don’t use any other unless you know it has both the same voltage and current rating e.g. 12V 500mA anything rated below that would not work properly.

5. Always use the same port for connecting your devices. Some devices do not like being switched about. If switched they may want to install software / drivers again. This can be especially true if you move a HUB to another port


6. For FLASH DRIVES you should ensure that the device is set for "quick removal" using the drive control panel properties or use the
USB "Safely Remove Hardware" option. If you don’t do this there is a very strong chance that any files you transfer may not be there when you plug into another computer.


7. It is possible to remove drives from the enclosures in most cases and connect directly inside a PC to fully check it.
You should also do this to check the drives connections are not bad inside the enclosure.


8. If none of the above steps help look at updating the drivers from the manufacturers web site in the support section.

9. If you checked and fixed anything there and still have issues then check your hardware from CONTROL PANEL / SYSTEM / HARDWARE.
Any exclamation marks by hardware need fixing before you investigate any further


10. Ensure that you have set removable drives for "quick removal" or that you use the "Safely Remove Hardware" option often shown on the lower toolbar. It is possible that files my not be fully written to external devices before they are removed. This corrupts the file itself and even on occasion the drive.
SPECIAL NOTES
USB flash drives can fail for no apparent reason.
Sandisk Cruzers are especially bad for this.

USB hard drives should be treated with extreme care.
This is a real hard drive ! And knocks and bumps can quite literally kill them.

Note that if you hear a drive clicking or pinging this could be the worst thing you would hear.

Try to fit correctly the usb cable to the Hard Drive. Try to borrow other usb cable connecting you HD. Maybe the cable it is just short circuit. Try to connect with other computer your HD. if it works either the your HD is corrupted or your computer is corrupted because of virus.

    Booted up my computer this am and the red light remains on and it does not appear that the system recognizes the external drive. The red light remains steady...I don't thhink the drive is running. How...


    Hello,
    it is a known issue that these particular drives sometimes don't get recognized by the Operating System, after coming out of Sleep, Stand By, or Hibernation.
    Simply try to disconnect and reconnect the drive again in the USB port, if this doesn't work then, Disconnect it from the USB and connect it to the Firewire. if this doesn't work then, Restart the computer.
    It should solve the problem.

    External hardrive not recognized


    Try a different cable between the computer and the drive.

    Disassemble the casing, and remove the "internal" disk-drive.
    If the USB-to-disk-drive adapter has "died", it's possible that the
    disk-drive itself is intact, and your data will be intact.

    Connect the "internal" disk-drive as a "slave" drive in a desktop computer, and see if it can be detected.

    If it's dead, and it's still under warranty, then exercise the warranty.

    is it set up by usb or serial port. if usb try unpluggung it and restarting computer then plug it in. you might want to go to manufacturs website and see if they are updates for the drivers

    Problems with Hard Drive


    Hi,

    Appreciate the direct "Ask Me".

    T your concern:
    • initially, pls verify that it is indeed an external storage problem rather than a laptop USB issue by trying other USB devices and determine if they are recognized and working;
    • disassemble the enclosure of the Acomdata external hard drive and remove the actual hard drive;
    • you would need the use of a 2nd PC, a desktop that could accommodate the HD from the Acomdata (IDE or SATA);
    • install the HD from the Acomdata as a Secondary Master or Slave internally to the 2nd PC;
    • boot the 2nd PC and determine if the HD from the Acomdata will be recognized as a local drive;
    • chances are that the partition of the HD from the Acomdata was messed up. This would explain the blinking blue light;
    • download and install a file recovery program. An example is GetDataBack (unfortunately not a freeware but DEMO is available) and do a recovery. It would take some time based on the size of the HD from the Acomdata;
    • temporarily save the recovered data in the 2nd PC. You can burn this likewise into a DVD backup should the 2nd PC be capable of that;
    • after recovery, re-partition and format the HD from the Acomdata while still attached to the 2nd PC;
    • should the re-partition and format be successful, you can transfer back the temporarily saved recovered files;
    • a nice, simple, fast and safe partitioning/formatting software is Partition Magic (unfortunately not a freeware but FREE TRIAL is available).
    • should the re-partition and format be not successful, you can replace only the HD and/or claim warranty.
    Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

    Acomdata External Hard Drive blue light constantly blinking and not recognized by computer


    how do I fix my external hard drive, because one day I turned it on and the drive was fine, the next day when I turned it on, it kept on flashing blue, does that mean that the drive is dead. Please help me with this.

    Acomdata slow to be read by my computers


    What operating system are you using? Have you tried this external HD on any other computers since the problem arose?

    I'm thinking it's a corrupted device identifier, but can't make a suggestion until the questions above are answered.
