SOURCE: printer ink cartridges move along the bar and then stop

All the HP 500 and 600 series are noisy like this. To help the problem, you would need to open the unit and blow out any dust and paper particles with low pressure compressed air. Put on some latex (medical type) gloves and wipe down and clean all surfaces with a paper towel soaked in 90% isopropyl alcohol (it will be messy). You will have to use multiple paper towels. Check all rollers and insure they will roll. Check the carriage and drive belt for damage. I would also spray a Q tip with WD-40 and swab a light coat on the carriage bar and at the metal edge of rollers (where there are bearings). If this doesn't resolve the banging noise, then there may be a problem with the stepper motor or gearing (plastic gears). This is not normally user serviceable and is not cost effective to repair. You buy a new printer.

SOURCE: 970 Cse cartridges bang over to the left and then nothing

I had the same problem with my HP Deskjet 970Cse which was quickly resolved by going to the below HP site and looking under the Issue: The carriage is stuck or makes a grinding noise. Note that the blinking lights displayed as: Resume Light Blinking Simultaneously AND Power Light Blinking Simultaneously.

The Solution:
1. Lift the top cover to the printer.
2. Turn the printer off and then on again.
3. Unplug the power cable from the back of the printer when the grinding noise starts.
4. Move the carriage towards the middle of the printer.
5. Take out the cartridges and close the top cover.
6. Plug the power cord to the back of the printer. Turn the printer on.
7. Open the top cover, reinstall the cartridges, and then close the top cover.

Hope this helps as it worked for me.

SOURCE: hp deskjet 882c printer carriage is stuck

Hi first of all you need to make sure that everything is in good shape on the carriage and the cartridge holder,

also check if you have any broken plastic pieces in the printer.

you mentioned the reset a well
was it a partial or a semi full reset

another thing which we can try is
1>take out both the cartridges
2> unplug the power cable while the printer is on
3>press the power button for 30 sec to remove the static
3>replug the power
now let the printer lights blink prompting you to put the cartridges
4>put the black cartridge first
some Hp printers work on single cartridges as well.
5>see if you hear the same grinding noise again
6>try cleaning the rollers with a little damp lint free cloth
7>try putting the color cartridge
make sure that the cartridges snap inside properly.
8>see if the problem persists

SOURCE: HP Deskjet F380 does not print. On screen message:

To solve the printing problem..

# Hold the cartridge upside down, with the bar-code label facing you and take a damp paper towel.
# Use the towel to wipe the printhead of the cartridge on the bottom (where the ink comes out). Wipe the printhead horizontally in one direction only (left to right).
# Continue doing this until it looks clean.
# Then dab the cartridge on the towel to make sure the ink is flowing.
# Next, look inside the printer and locate the carrier that holds ink cartridges. Caution: Make sure the cartridges are not installed at this point.

1. Look for a shiny piece of metal underneath the contacts at the back of the carrier.
2. Take a damp cotton swab (use water only!) and wipe along the bottom of the shiny metal piece. Note: You may need more than one swab.

# Reinstall the cartridges, making sure you snap them correctly into the printer.

Hope this help. Please Rate My Response! Thanks!

Epson Stylus Photo RX600: Banging noise when turning on printer

Ok I think this is the cartridge carrier doing the banging I have had this on 2 or 3 epsons that I oncwe owned. If you clean those rails that the cartridge container slides on the banging should cease. Dont need to oil them just a damp cloth will do it. You can try sewing machine oil later. only a very small drop ( smidgen) on a cloth to wipe both rails.

Dell printer 944 shows carrier jam and when you press the arrow button as shown on the screen but the cartridges move to the left and right banging both the sides and then stops on the sides.hope anybody...

Try this procedure:

1.Disconnect the power supply from the back of the printer.
2.Open the front cover of the printer where the cartridges are located.
3.Look for two black bands that span from left to right (they should have one serrated side and one smooth side). Just above the black bands there is a transparent strip; this strip is called the Encoder strip.
4.Flick this strip lightly with your finger to make sure that it is running smoothly from left to right. You may need to do this two or three times. CAUTION: Do not pull the strip!
5.Close the front cover of the printer and reconnect the power supply.
6.If the problem persists, you may need to contact Dell Technical Support.

Lexmark z23 cartridge banging

The encoder strip may have become unseated. please follow the steps given below:
The embedded links in the table lead to specific troubleshooting steps.
1 Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cable from the back of the unit.
2 Open the printer's front cover.
Pinch the top of the carrier belt and gently move the cartridge carrier to the center of the printer.
3 On the back of the cartridge carrier, there is a small slot that the encoder strip fits into. Gently push the encoder strip down and back up to get it into the slot. NOTE: If the strip is completely out of the slot, it may be necessary to move it first forward and then back.
4 Move the cartridge carrier back to the left-hand side of the printer with the carrier belt.
5 Reconnect the power supply and turn the printer back on
If the issue persists after you have attempted the steps with a new color cartridge, continue to Contacting Lexmark.

Try power up without cartridges and just black and just colour cart to eleminate cart faults does error change?
