Re: zoom broken

I think the zoom is stuck inside the camera. You need to send the camera to service or repair center.

It zooms all the way to the maximum on its own;

That sounds like the zoom button is either jammed or broken. Try pressing on the zoom buttons and see if you can release it from zooming constantly.

Also, you could take out the batteries / battery for 5 minutes and then try again, if it keeps doing it, the button is either jammed or broke and it might need to be replaced.

That is the most likely problem.

When i press the on button camera makes a buzzing sound but does not switch on. previously it has been taking photo's but they are blurry.

Your Camera is either out of battery of uncharged. The buzzing sound is the sound it makes when the camera zooms in,most cameras automaticly do this when started up.The reason for your pictures being blurry, could just be off focused.Hope it helped

Try cleaning off the little button (focus button) it sounds as if it is blocked and can not make up its mind where to focus. Also, you could (and should now) exchange the camera from where you purchased it-before the 30 days most stores give for a return is over.

The zoom won't work on my Canon A460

Your zoom may be turned off, here is how you can turn it back on:
When you are about to take a picture, press the little menu button, then press down until it says digital zoom, if the little black box is over-top of 'off' change it to say 'on'.
Hope this helps.....and makes sense.

Half of the buttons don't work

Hi, my M417 acted the same way. Would only power on and then any button would only make a little "tick" sound. I also tried taking the case off and my camera worked as well. What I spotted was that the switches are little metal domes which pop down in the center when the plastic button is pressed to make a connection between metal traces on the circuit board. The little domes are not attached to the board but are only held in place and located by some thick clear tape over the board. A couple of my switch domes had "drifted" out of position and so when in the case they had enough pressure for their edges to be making contact at all times so they were always on. I lifted the tape with a small knife blade and slid the domes back to where they belonged and now the camera is back to normal!

Make sure you are pressing the button half way and getting the 'beep' that the camera is ready to take the picture before pressing the button all the way down.

Also make sure you have good lighting conditions and use the flash if needed.

Last, make sure you are still in optical zoom and not digital... I would suggest turning off digital zoom, I don't recommend using it at all.

Hopefully this helps..

Cannon zoom sd870

hi have you tried removing the battery for couple of hours so it can reset any settings that need to be set back to default it only resets camera memory not settings you have changed but this can sometimes solve the problem your having.

Also when you switch camera on and then press zoom when the camera switches off does the lense go back inside the camera as normal or does it reamin out.

when you switch in on do all the other buttons work like can you take picture and can you access all the menu if you can then take it off auto if its on auto then see if this let you use zoom if not then the chances are their is a fault on the zoom button either jammed could be that the lense motor has come out of line with zoom button, is the display clear when you go to take picture without adjusting the zoom is it still possible to take pictures

Zoom button broken

If you can pull the camera apart (carefully) and find the zoom switch it could be that the switch itsekf has jumped the actuator. I don't know what method your camera usues but most use a rocker type switch. On the underside of this switch would be a slot which when pushed one way pushes against a small lever of piece of plastic. Let it go and the switch centres itself taking the lever with it. Push the switch the other way and it moves the lever or plastic in the opposite direction. What sometime happens is the lever or plastic somehow gets on the wrong side of this slot. So it will only push the lever in one direction. What you'd have to do is remove the top of the switch and center the lever or piece of plastic and put the camera back together. If your zoom is 2 seperate switches then one of the swiches is either faulty, the pin on the underside of the swich is broken or there is a foreign object stopping the switch from activating. You should be able to tell which one it is simply by the feel of the switch. if it's loose and wobbles around the pin would be broken. If it feels stck then maybe there's something stopping it. If it does neither of these things it could be just a faulty button switch which means you're up for a complete switch cable assembly. Good luck putting it back together. Just be patient and don't force anything. BMW
