Question about Raymarine Ray 240 Modular Vhf System

Open Question

My Raymarine 240 VHF seems to be losing the squelch feature. I have to turn to up to 7 or higher to get a clear station. There is no traffic, just static when adjusted lower. Is there a way to fix this?

Hi Michael

From the owner's manual (Page 14) you need to press "menu", then select "Frequency Group", then you have the choice of USA, Canada or International channels:

Here's the link to your owner's manual should you require it:

Yaesu ft-857 squelch problem

Your RF gain control needs to be turned all the way up to be able to receive signals and if you are on one of the HF bands like 40 meters or any HF band the squelch control needs to be all the way off! You do not use squelch on HF! When on VHF or UHF then you would rotate the squelch control just to the point that the background noise stops and go no further. Higher squelch settings will only block weak signals and your radio will be deaf! Squelch control rotated just to the point the background noise stops! NO SQUELCH ON HF. Turn the squelch all the way off on HF!

THE CORD ON THE HANDSET IS BROKEN TO THE SIDE WHICH IS CONECTED TO THE BASE UNIT. I TRY TO SOLDER IT TO THE PINS BUT WHAT COLOR GOES WHERE?

Phone connections are low electrical connections. Soldering would cause heat dispersion fluctuations, creating more complications. Best to replace cord or unit.

No backlight on raymarine E120

You may have inadvertently turned the backlighting off. Ray marine has an extensive library on-line. I have usually been able to find what I need there. May take some digging though.

Icom m36 will not receive. Speaker makes noise with squelch all the way up but just won't receive anything including weather.

You may have the CTCSS tone squelch enabled so unless a station you're listening to is encoding CTCSS tones, you won't hear the traffic you're expecting.

Where can I buy a Raymarine replacement cord and microphone for a 2004 VHF

Sadly, the mic and cord for the Ray54 have been discontinued by the manufacturer. I guess if you plan to buy a Raymarine VHF, your best bet would be to buy a spare radio for parts. Unbelievable.

Here's the link to that conversation from Raymarine support.

I realize this question is old, but the information could be helpful to someone else.

New BC355C put 7 channels in,but only will stop on 2

1. Be sure sure that your squelch is adjusted properly. While scanning, turn the SQUELCH control down slowly until scanning stops and you hear a hissing sound. Then slowly turn the control back up until scanning resumes. That will set a proper threshold level for the frequencies you're monitoring.
2. Be sure that signals are not blocked in your area. Topography plays a large part in VHF and UHF radio reception. A hill, a tall building, even a thick grove of trees can prevent a signal from reaching your antenna.
3. It's possible that there was just no traffic on the five freqs while you were listening.
4. Be sure that the frequencies you've programmed are assigned in your area.
5. For a comprehensive database of active frequencies in your area, visit:

You cannot just reprogram your Raymarine to european standard.

This radio has been built and is licenced for using with USA frequency, in Europe his use will be limited to lower bands with no modification.

To be fully adapted to higher bands, the radio must be taken apart, and you need to bridge a contact on the main board.

The use of the radio after modifacion won't be legal in Europe.
