Question about Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 USN Lens

Canon Ef_S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens won't focus in manual or auto mode

I just got a Canon 60D. I opened it today. It came with the 18-55mm lens and 75-300mm lens. The 75-300 lens works just fine. The 18-55mm lens won't focus at all in either the autofocus or manual focus mode.

If the camera is used you may have a problem with the seller. Before jumping into conclusions however read your manual for your solution or simply search youtube for a help video. Hopefully this helped.

SOURCE: Canon EF-S 17-85MM F/4-5.6 IS USM prevents features from working on 40D

something sounds strange about this. aperture 00 is an invalid aperture value. stands to reason if that is the case the camera would complain about it. via error code. being that its only six mos. old i would give canon a ring.

SOURCE: autofocus function will not work on Canon 17 40mm 1.4 EF lens

Since the problem is limited to this lens, I highly doubt that you would have to replace the cameras AF sensors.
Since you only have the problem with this lens, I am afraid that you will have to get the lens repaired. Is the lens also 3 years old? Did you get it with MACK extended warranty?
Sometimes, Canon do these kinds of repairs for free, if they discover that there was some manufacturing error that caused it to fail. So be sure that you get it to a certified canon workshop.
I hope this helps,
/Chris

If your AF motor is hunting then the lens probably needs to be looked at. I wouldn't recommend this as something to do at home so you will need to either find a repair shop if it is out of warranty or return it to Canon if it is in warranty.

Hi there. i owned a Canon EOS 60D model camera. The problem is, its AF option is not working except Auto n 'C' modes. While i am trying to use it in M mode with AF, its not working but in auto mode an

Are you sure you did not put the AF/ MF switch in the wrong position? Although I don't think it would focus in Auto mode. In all other modes, are you sure you selected a (or more) focus point(s) in the centre of the frame?
When the selected focus point is on the side of the frame it won't focus on the parts you want it to focus. Then while pointing to the point you want the camera to focus, please press the shutter release button half and what till it focusses. Then press it the whole way down. Be aware the camera needs enough light to focus and certainly can't focus with a lens wit a min aperture of 6 or a larger number. On your 18-135 you can shoot at f16 because it will first focus on wide open and only close the aperture after you pressed the button.

18-55mm lens wont auto focus

If the lens will focus on manual focus but won;t on auto focus you may have a ribbon connector failure in the lens. This ribbon continually flexis as the lens moves in and out. Over time this can break and will probably need to be replaced. All good camera repair shop should be able to do this for you and this remady is one of the cheaper repairs to photographic equipment

If it focuses OK in manual but not in auto then you may have broken ribbon cable in the lens.

Autofocus problem with 70-300mm is usm

Probably needs a new ribbon cable in the lens. This flexible cable maintains the contact as the lens is zoomed in and out. If it is still under warranty take it back to B&H for a simple repair.

The camera will not fire the shutter when I use my 17-85 lens on AUTO FOCUS. It will not let me manually focus as well. what can I do.

1. First of all, make sure the lens is aligned properly and it's not loose in any way. The camera will immediately recognize the problem and will not let you fire the shutter.

2. Allow your lens to auto focus on an object (preferably something that's on your wall). See if it detects the object when you half press the shutter, and once it does press it down all the way.

3. If this is still not the case, the lens itself may be causing the problem. Make sure your camera is compatible with the lens (though most Canon lens are compatible with the EF-S series, it's still wise to check in Canon.com)

Auto Focus not working for Canon EFS 18-55mm lens

This usually happens when the contacts between the lens and the camera are dirty. Try taking the lens off and cleaning carefully the metal contacts on the camera and the lens. If that does not solve the problem, you can get a warranty repair or replacement since that camera should still be under the original 12 month warranty.

Autofcous and manual focus do not work

excuse me if this is a dumb question but you wouldn't believe the things people do...., but in manual mode are you actually manually trying to move the lens? as manual mode means just that you take hold of the lens and turn it. If it wont turn it sounds like the lens is jammed and needs returning/repairing.

if taking hold of the lens and turning it works for manual mode, take the lens off and clean the gold contacts on both the camera and the lens with a pencil erasor this may bring the auto focus back to life, switch back to auto and try again, if not its most likely the lens but take the body to a canon store and try another lens just to double check the body is ok

drop me a line if i can be of further assistance

best of luck
