Camera powers on then immediately back off

I can not use my canon a560 powershot camera. The camera lens is fully extended while off. When I turn on the camera the lens retracts and extends again and then the camera immediately shuts off. I have tried new batteries including rechargables and I get the same effect. This is not the Lens reset issue since the lens moves just fine. This camera is a little over a year old I believe. Any suggestions or help are appreciated. Thanks.
