Just before the spin cycle, there are horrendous sounds of metal clanging like cogs in gears slipping. What is happening?

either the drum bearings are gone {you need an engieer to do this and its a long and labourious job but extends the lifespan of the machine}

the pump motor has coins or other metal parts inside it {take out the filter and clean the whole pump even inside it look with a torch for any bits of metal} you may need to lay the machine down on the opposite side from the soap drawer
and take the hoze off the pump and check its traps
as some machines dont have a screw in filter tray

you could find there is wires from clothes inside the skin of the drum
perhaps the kids post to the soap drawer a toy car etc
this end up inbetween the drum and the drum outer skin
and will start to bang around when the drum moves to faster speeds
to clear this you need to fully empty the machine and then take the heating element out and fish around with long tweezers to grab the bits and pieces
something like this is the issue
i would let a service guy have a look
the bearings you can tell if you open the drum door and move the dum up and down left and right
if there is play in the inner drum then the bearings are gone

i bet its something inside that will float about when there is more water in the machine

Why would there be a clicking sound from the soap dispenser?

Good morning Sandra: Sorry for taking so long to get back to you. I wanted to think about this first and today I did my laundry. The clicking sound can be a few things. The question is, is this normal? There are solenoids near the soap dispenser that control the movement of water. Water is flushed through the soap tray at various times during the washing process. The first time to pick up pre wash soap. The second is to pick up the wash soap. The third time the bleach and finally the softener. The machine will go through these steps even if you do not have any of the above mentioned chemicals in the tray. Each one of the sections requires a separate actuator. Some may be closing while others are opening. If your machine seams to be working fine (your soap, bleach, pre wash soap and fabric softener) are gone at the end of the wash cycle then I would not be concerned. If the clicking seams to be constant during the wash cycle and this seams to be a new phenomena. You might consider calling a tech, but I would not be in a hurry to fix something that is not broken.
Best of Luck

Water runs out of soap box during rinse cycle

Hi there, given this a lot of thought. I had same problem. Could be that you are in a hard water area. Soap is not dissolving properly and building up in the rubber tube between soap box and drum. How I resolved this. Turn off power remove top cover of washing machine and massage the rubber pipe between soap box and drum to soften and cause undissolved saoa to drop into drum. This should rectify problem. Also consider using every month some descaler powder called Descaler cheapest from Axxxxn best wishes.

Add glass Magic or Lemon Shine to the soap in the door for every load, this will impress you. You will not have to rewash again. It only takes 2 tablespoon on top of the soap in the door.
I find Lemon Shine at Target, under four dollars and works great.

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France @ 13:52 Tues afternoon.

I don't think it is the washing machine, honestly! Don't consider wasting money- persevere!.
All that ALL machines do is simply flush the soap/powder down into the drum and then move the water, at what ever temperature you have selected, and washing around for a particular amount of time, then spin the water out before rinsing and spinning again.
There are a number of possibilities but continue to use the recommended amount of soap- the manufacturers are supposed to know best- although the more you use, the more they sell!!

1) maybe your water supply is very 'hard' i.e. lots of calcium. If so ALWAYS use decalc powder or tablets in EVERY wash. Also run the contents of a sachet (or 2) of a proprietary washing machine decalc/cleaner regularly- if very hard water do it once a month. It will help to keep the heating element clean. Even if you use tablets in every wash, their contents have been washed away with the waste wash water and no longer there for rinse cycles unfortunately.
2) try a different washing powder/soap!
3) If you are not using conditioner/softener already (you do not say) start using some. The only item for which my wife does not use softener is in towels as they dry one much more effectively without the 'coating' of softener!

I'd be very surprised if one or all of these options/choices does not sort out your problem!

Good luck,

John C

Frigidaire affinity front loading washer

Pull the top off by removing the screws on the back of the top of the washer then the top will push back and left off. From the front reach down on the left side , there is a hose that gos from the bottom of the soap dispenser the gos into the front of the drum, you should be able to pull it out of where it gos into the drum chances are there issomthing stuck in it or there in the drum where the hose gos in. Note you may have to take the screws out of the soap dispenser and push it back a little to get your arm down in there to get ahold of the hose.

Hope this helps....
