I had this problem with the ADP5406 too, but managed to solve it. Here's what I did. First I turned the dishwasher off at the mains. The dishwasher was full of dirty water so the first thing was to drain this. I managed to lift the dishwasher up onto a couple of buckets to let gravity do the work of draining the water out of the drain hose and into a bucket. I then unclipped the plastic lower front of the dishwasher. To do this tilt the dishwasher back a bit and release the fairly obvious clips underneath the wide plastic part at the base of the front of the dishwasher. Once this is off you will need to undo 4 torx screws to remove the lower metal access panel. Once this is removed you will be able to see the drain pump. Be very careful at this point since all the metal in the dishwasher is unfinished and extremely sharp. It's like working with 30inch long Stanley knife blades all around your hands! The drain pump is at the front, just left of centre and attaches directly to the sump. To detatch it, first unplug the plug that supplies it with power. Once this is unclipped, press the tab in on the edge of the pump so that you can turn it anticlockwise to undo it. It should come out in your hand now enabling you to pull the impeller out of it and give it a good clean. My pump was full of mush and grime and seemed to be stopping it from working properly. Refitting everything is a straightforward reversal of removal. Good luck.

Either the contact on the door is not flush with the dishwasher, which makes a good connection between the door and the diswasher. Make sure if it is built into a cabinet the dishwasher is sitting straight inside the cabinet. If it is not straight this may cause it not to function properly and will cause the door not to make a good contact.
If that is not the issue replace the switch in the door. Or you may have an even more problematic issue: The timer controller in the door is bad.
