SOURCE: Ongkyo dv-sp302 dvd/cd player,disc tray open

Hi
I know the reply is a bit late but I had a similar problem.
The problem is with one IC close to where the motor wire are connected. This particular IC overheats and that was causing a malfuction. So I have installed a small heat sink and now all is well.
Hope this works for you too

All the best - Clayton

You can try unplugging the unit for 3 hours or overnight but if that still does not reset the unit you will have to pry open the disk tray carefully and cautiously with a butter knife.

The disk tray won't open. this is brand

Just got mine out this morning. Googled this for two days with no success! Finally, out of despiration I took the screwdriver to the top cover. (four screws in the back, and two screws on each side) Lifted up the rear section of the cover which the released the front for removal. The input pc board is right on top of the dvd tray so little could be seen, so I removed the screws and clips holding the pc board. Make sure that you you disconnect the power before doing this however. Once you have removed the three screws, (two of which have attached grounding clips) you will need to disconnect the HDMI cable which plugs into the back of the board if you had not already done so. Now carefully plug the unit back into ac power, and while holding the board in your hand careful not to allow it to touch anything, press the open button on the front of the unit, and as you move the board slightly while pressing the button, the tray mechanism will start to try to release. Press the button several times till the tray opens completely and stops. Now comes the tricky part: Unplug the AC power plug while the tray remains open. (Otherwise the tray may close again and you'll have to go through the wiggle routine again to get it to open) Once it is open, remove the DVD Disk if there is one in there. OK, so now if you have followed these instructions so far the tray is open and empty, and there is no power to the unit, you can begin reassembly. Put the three screws and two clips back into the PC board loosely at first till you have all three started, then proceed to tighten each one. Replug the cable into the back of the PC board and then replace the top cover and the screws following the same procedure. Plug the unit back into the AC receptacle, and turn the unit on, then press the open/close button, and the tray should open and close as normal. I think what caused the problem to begin with is that I had left a DVD disc in the player for an extended period of time in the start play mode, and it either jumbled the programming or damaged the disc. I have not tried to put the original disk back in the unit to find out! I want to use it for awhile first! PS I would also suggest that onec you have it working, you might want to blow out the tray mechanism with an air cleaner spray.

Samsung DVD-VR330: Disk Tray won't open

The solution is to unplug the machine and wait 10 secs. and plug it in again. I have to do this often. another part of the problem may be that some of the blank disks are bad. I got the DVD+R at Staples and about 4 out of 10 were able to be formatted. I am about to try the DVD-RWs.

BLOCKED MESSAGE ON YAMAHA DV-S5450 DVD PLAYER

The DV-S5450 may use a belt-loading mechanism. The belt is typically black rubber band with a diameter of approximately 2 cm. It is commonly found in front-loading CDROMs for computers also. Often, as a result of age, usage, humidity, etc the belt snaps, rendering the loading impossible. The loading motor doesn't just pop the tray in or out. It also engages a clutch assembly that raises an inserted disk or lowers a disk to be ejected; this explains why you can't simply force out the tray. Clearly in your case all the electronic signals are there and the loading motor does turn.

Solution: switch off and unplug the unit and then open it up. Do a quick inspection to see if you can locate the broken rubber band. If you can, remove it and take it along with you to the nearest repair shop for exact replacement. If you are finicky around technical work, simply a competent person do it for you. Good luck.

Pioneer DV-C36 disc tray will not stay open

Solution for Pioneer DV-C36 Multi Disk DVD player - tray door will not stay open.

My player would open the disk tray when the open button was press but when the tray was fully open it would retract
back into the unit leaving no time to change or load disks.
I found a poor connection at the ribbon cable connector was causing this problem. A seven conductor ribbon cable
connects the main unit with the travelling tray. A position switch (S21) senses when the tray is fully extended and retracted.
On my player pin 1 of the ribbon cable connector on the travelling tray was not making an electrical connection which
causes the control system to retract the tray. The fault lies in the connector - the tang was not pressing against the ribbon cable conductor.
I was able to desolder the connector and pull the contact out just far enough to reform the tang with fine needle nose pliers.
This is very tedious and required an eye loupe for magnification.
Tools required:
#1 and #2 phillips screwdrivers
Soldering and desoldering irons (or other desoldering tools)
Fine needle nose pliers.

Remove the tray ribbon cable
1. Remove the cabinet cover - 6 screws. Open the tray. To keep the tray from retracting pull the power cord when the tray is extended.
2. Remove the front bezel from the tray. Gently pry up the bezel by relesing the catches with a small screwdriver. Allow the tray to retract.
3. Remove the front panel - undo large ribbon and wire connections on right, remove screws left and right, release
two catch tangs on bottom edge using a small screwdriver on the inside of the unit.
4. Remove the white plastic cover over the laser mechanism ( 2 screws) Remove the disk carrier by removing the center screw.
5. Extend the tray again. When the tray is out the small ribbon cable is visible below the tray. Undo the ribon cable where it attaches to the main unit unit.
6. To slide the tray off the main unit use a small screwdriver to depress the stop catches (2) in the tray. They are molded into the tray.
Pull the tray out further then lift up.
7. Flip over the tray and find the small circuit board the ribbon cable goes to. Desolder the motor wires (red and black) and remove the 2 screws
holding the circuit board and position switch.

Use a multimeter to confirm there is an open or poor connection in the ribbon cable connector.

Remove the ribon cable and inspect the connector with an eye loupe or other magnification device. On my player contact #1 was not positioned properly
to press against the ribbon cable conductor. You can either replace the connector or repair it.
Warning: repairing the connector may damage it.
To repair the contact desolder the connector from the circuit board. Bend the circuit board prong straight and push it into the body of the
connector which will extend the contact out and the contact can be reformed. Be very gentle. Bending the contact may cause it to break.

Reassembly is the reverse. Don't forget to solder the motor wires with the proper polarity. Red and Black are labeled on the circuit board.
