Question about Dell (Inspiron 531) PC Desktop
Somehow the anti-virus software was disabled on my Dell Inspiron 531 desktop and would not enable after my nephew downloaded some music from iTunes. I un-installed the anti-virus software and re-installed it. Then I tried to run the Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool, but the computer shut down before it could finish the process. I turned the computer back on and it stayed on for a few minutes and cut off. I have replaced the battery and it is still shutting down. Do you think it has a virus or the power supply is going bad? Please help
There are several possible causes for this. Laptops are notorious for dust buildup and overheat issues. Take compressed air and blast out the vent areas. If you can push enough air through the vent leading to the CPU cooling fan, that may clear out dust clogging the fan, preventing proper CPU cooling.
The next possible issue is a threat.
Boot into safe mode - keep repeatidly pressing F8 key as soon as you power on - until a menu comes up. Using keyboard up/down arrow, select "Safe Mode" (with networking if available).
Next, install Malwarebytes (free version) and perform a full scan. Also scan using your current antivirus.
hope this helps,

If you have windows 7 installed, then see if you can boot to the DVD and run a repair on the OS. You also may want to run a diagnostics on the system if you can get to the F12 menu

The Dell Inspiron 531 is a desktop personal computer with a Microsoft Windows operating system. An Inspiron equipped with a CD burner can be used to record audio discs using Windows Media Player, which comes installed on the Inspiron as a standard part of the software package Dell loads onto its computers. Blank, recordable discs and pre-recorded audio CDs are the only supplies needed for the project.
