Hi,

The issue can be caused by the damaged system files or hardware device.

I suggest trying the following method to troubleshoot the issue:

Startup Repair from the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE)
----------------------------------------
1. Insert the Windows Vista installation disc into the disc drive, and then start the computer.
2. Press a key when the message indicating "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD ...". appears.
3. Select a language, a time and currency, and a keyboard or input method, and then click Next.
4. Click Repair your computer.
5. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, choose the drive of your Windows installation and click Next.
6. At the System Recovery Options Dialog Box, click on Repair your computer.
7. Click the operating system that you want to repair, and then click Next.
8. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click Startup Repair.

Please continue with the following instructions if the above suggestion does not help:

1. Put the Windows Vista installation disc in the disc drive, and then start the computer.
2. Press a key when the message indicating "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD ..." appears.
3. Select a language, a time, a currency, and a keyboard or another input method, and then click Next.
4. Click Repair your computer.
5. (Click the operating system that you want to repair), and then click Next.
6. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click Command Prompt.
7. Type "chkdsk /F C:" (without quotation marks) and click Enter.
8. Restart the computer and have a test.

If the issue still exits, please move to the below steps:

In-place Upgrade Installation
-----------------------------------------
Technically, you won't lose any data to take an In-place Upgrade Installation. In order to avoid any unexpected problem, I suggest you backup your data before taking In-place Upgrade Installation.

1. Start the computer by using the current Operating System.
2. Insert the Windows Vista DVD in the computer's DVD drive.
3. Use one of the following procedures, as appropriate:
• If Windows automatically detects the DVD, the Install now screen appears.
Click Install now.
• If Windows does not automatically detect the DVD, follow these steps:
a. Click Start, type (Drive: )\setup.exe in the Start Search box, and then clickEnter.
Note: (Drive: ) is the drive letter of the computer's DVD drive.
b. Click Install now.
4. When you reach the "Which type of installation do you want?" screen, click Upgrade to upgrade the current operating system to Windows Vista.

Installing and reinstalling Windows

If both of the above two methods do not work on your issue, please contact the manufacturer to check the hardware.

Regards,
Thulasiramki.

Reset hp amd to factory settings

Hello,

The particular error code (1009) is a generic error code for 'interrupted' for system recovery. Meaning, somehow, the recovery process was interrupted. For most HP machines this can be a simple as a few keys being pressed on the keyboard, a power interruption, bad disc, faulty hard drive, or some other form of read error during the process.

Unfortunately, the error code isn't specific enough to give you the best possible troubleshooting information, but I shall try to help as much as I can.

If you can provide the exact HP model number, I can provide a more specific solution for you; but, if you have a Desktop or Notebook computer that uses F11 (on start-up) to enter into system recovery, then you can do the following:

  1. Click Next when Welcome to Recovery Manager displays.
  2. Select No and then click Next when Microsoft System Restore displays.
  3. Select Yes and then click Next when System Recovery displays.
  4. Select the appropriate item (backup file or not) and then click Next when Recover your computer to original factory condition displays.
  5. Allow the system recovery process to complete.
NOTE: The PC will appear to FREEZE for several minutes (it can take quite a while depending on the Operating System you are installing), so do not turn off the power to your machine. If the machine stays frozen for longer than several hours, then chances are the hard drive is having issues, or the recovery image cannot be recovered.

If you have tried the above steps, and you are still failing with Error 1009, it usually points to a failure with the recovery medium (image on a CD, or image on the hard drive), or that the hard drive it is restoring too is having a write/read error. This can be worked around if you have a USB recovery media you can use.

If you have access to another computer, you can create a recovery key on a USB stick to boot your HP computer from, and then kick off the recovery process that way.

Those options, however, shouldn't be taken unless you have tried the above solutions first.

Regards,

Phillip

My laptop says windows error recovery

The Windows Error Recovery message can appear for several reasons- an improper shutdown, new software, new hardware, etc. Since trying both options that you are given doesn't work, you need to troubleshoot the Windows startup error. If you have recently added new hardware, disconnecting or removing it could solve the problem for you as it might be creating some type of incompatibility.

Troubleshooting Windows Error Recovery: Last Known Good Configuration

You can attempt to boot up in Safe Mode and select Last Known Good Configuration and see if that works to resolve the Windows startup error. Turn the computer on and immediately begin to press the "F8″ key. If this does not work, you might need to press the "F2," "F10," or "F12″ key. Once you see the prompt screen, select "Last Known Good Configuration."

Troubleshooting Windows Error Recovery: Booting up from the Installation Disk

If that did not work, try booting up the laptop using the Windows installation disk - provided you still have it. If so, follow these steps:

1)   Turn the power button to your laptop on.

2)   Immediately insert the Windows installation disk that belongs to the laptop.

3)   When you see the option for "Check System," press the "ESC" key. Next, press the "F1″ key. Your laptop should now boot up.

4)   You can now use the "System Restore" feature to allow your laptop to return to a previous setting when it was functioning properly. This might mean selecting "R" for recovery.

When I turn my Toshiba Satellite A75 on, after the logo disappears I get the error code "press any key to reboot" however the laptop will not reboot no matter how many times I press a key.

If your laptop has a recovery partition, boot from the recovery partition and repair windows. If not, attempt to obtain Windows recovery disks or a fresh copy of Windows to install on your laptop and reformat the Hard-Drive. When formatting a hard drive for windows, NTFS is the standard and recommended format.

You may try to rebuild the boot config from the recovery console, if you have the Windows boot disk or recovery console installed.
