Yes but won't be a very useful exercise. Because, you will have to purchase a new map of India, install it (provided you have an SD card slot) or install it to the hard drive (provided you have the space) and switch the maps. Very easily said than done.
Most important of all, I do not think, Tom Tom offers a map of India. It would be best to buy a cheap one that comes with mapmyInida maps pre-installed. My one suggestion would be look for a GPS where you can navigate by latitude and longitude input as an option. Since most towns/rural areas do not have street/Avenue intersections, locating your destination in Google and feeding that lat/lon to your GPS would enable you to use your GPS far better in those conditions.
If you travel in Inida with a GPS on Lat/Lon inputs, I would definitely like to hear your experience. Send a Personal Message on firstname.lastname@example.org please. Check out Mapmyindia.com. Garmin seems to have India maps and GPS in the Rs. 8000/- range. Costlier compared to US prices though.
I wanted to add maps to my 250W. I found the maps I wanted on a Torrent. However, many searches around various forums never revealed how to install these. Found the following through reading and experimentation.
1. Downoaded map image file GMAPSUPP.IMG. Download also gave me "Use code XXX when generating unlock code for maps" 2. Downloaded Garmin Unlock Generator 1.3 by JetMouse 3. Looked on my GPS to find the UnitID 4. Entered the UnitID into Garmin Unlock Generator. Ignore the GM XT device unlock code and the top Generate button. 5. Selected Map Product as Custom and entered the code given for the downloaded image file. 6. Hit the bottom create button to generate a 25 digit code. 7. Download Img2Gps and run 8. Click Load Folder to load the image file. Select the tick next to it. 9. Check the Use Unlock Key option and paste the 25 digit code in. 10. Load a blank SD card into your Garmin 11. Connect the Garmin to your PC using a USB cable. You should see two dirves in windows: one is the Garmin and the other is the "Removable Disk" SD card. 12. Create a folder called "Garmin" on the SD card 13. Select Folder/Card in Img2GPS 14. Click "Copy Maps". Select the folder /Garmin on the SD card. You may need to click copy again. 15. Upload will take a while. 16. You should now see a file GMAPSUPP.IMG on the SD card in the /Garmin directory. 17. Create a new text file called GMAPSUPP.UNL in the same directory (make sure it does not have a hidden .txt extension). 18 copy the 25 digit unlock key into this file. 19. Close the file. 20. Disconnect the Garmin. 21. On Startup it should load your original maps and the new ones.
Hi you can connect to an exteral GPS device using bluetooh and use its features such as mapping ur position, finding distances between places, finding best route to reach your destination etc.
Use of exteral GPS is that it can find may satellites quicker and you can map ur position also when you are practically anywhere on earth with or wothout your network operator being present.
All you need a is a GPS blutetooh module to run your servies which actully means that it bluetooth modules costs less, than buying an additional device which would turn heavy on the pocket.
See below website link for buying Bluetooh GPS Device and services in India.:
The new maps will be unlocked to your GPS using the code Garmin supplied you.
You will have to add these maps to a second SD card if your present card is full, or else purchase a larger card. Since all the Mapsource NT 2008 Europe maps are 1,395MB in size, you'll need to purchase at least a 2GB SD card.
