Put a new condenser in it. Make sure the points are set correctly with a feeler gauge. Clean the magnets on the flywheel and coil of any rust with some sandpaper. Make sure no wires are grounding out. I'll bet the condenser fixes the problem being it is very common for them to go bad.
Is the coil clean and the magneto free from rust?Clean them and set the gap betveen coil and and magneto to 0.30mm SET The gap between the points to 0.30mm if this dosent help you could try to

You may need to use a jumper wire between the threaded part of the plug and the cooling fins. You don’t have to bend up the electrode. HTH

SOURCE: my chain saw won't start.
The trouble is more than likely a bad CDI (Capacitive Discharge Ignition) module.
SOURCE: cannot get the saw to start, even with starter
I assume you have installed a new spark plug. Most common problem is the fuel pump diaphram in the carbuerator goes bad. Rebuild the carb in that case... about $20 for the kit... Last problems are the magneto coil or that the flywheel key has sheared causing timing to be off.
