Question about Samsung Bd-E5500 3D Blu-Ray Player
Does not start properly and does not recognise any type of disc andconsequently does not play.
My BD-E5900 had the same problem, and I had to go into the support menu and update the software. It didn't take at first, but keep trying, my system rebooted with the updates and works ok now.

My dark Knight DVD was only playing the first 4 screens and I burned the firmware upgrade to a CD. It took about 20 minutes from the time I inserted it for it to be complete, then it stopped at 4 again but took about 30 seconds and it began to play perfect.

If its not a Blu-Ray disc, it wont have new technology that the Blu-Ray does not have installed so its unlikely a firmware update wil fix this as its generally for new Blu-Rays.
Does the disc playback in another player?
Is it the correct region code?
Do all other DVD-Video play ok?

SOURCE: BD-P1590 won't play some discs
It may be a disc incompatibilty. Make sure you have the latest firmware for your unit. Report the problem to samsung to see if you there is a issue or a future fix. Blu-ray players are STILL trying to be finalized and only recently have they gotten smoother. Some players are better at some discs than others. Please take a sec to let me know if this helps.

Testimonial: "I really appreciated your effort to help. Unfortunately, the "Lie To Me" disc isn't blu-ray. I called Samsung, and they say that updated firmware will"
The non-blu-ray laser lens needs cleaning.
Try not to use a blast of compressed air.
Radio Shack has a lens cleaner ($13). it is an audio CD with a row of brushes on it.
Read & follow the directions.
