Remove har drive

I need to remove the hard drive from my Sony VPCSE190X. Upon removing the cover I see a ribbon running over the top which appears to be glued on but can removed. Do I remove the ribbon then remove the hard drive and snap it into place then replace the ribbon on top? Is the ribbon important? I have been unable to find a solution to this issue. Thank you.

It turns out the ribbon is a vital part of the hard drive connection. It is an mSATA 1.8" as opposed to 2.5" also very rare to locate.

Testimonial: "You mean it's not connected to an important part of the computer? It appears to be connected that's why I didn't want to touch it. Thank you! I can post a picture if you are not familiar with the model. I appreciate your kind assistance. My older VGN model didn't have the ribbon and I could easily snap it out. This looked important so had me worried."

It turns out the ribbon is a vital part of the hard drive connection. As this model has an mSATA 1.18" as opposed to the SATA 2.5". It is easily removed, however locating the correct hard drive is near impossible. I as quoted $1,400 from Sony. Fortunately, I located my extended warranty and it will be replaced on their dime. Thank you for the help. Micro SATAs are different from regular SATA drives. This particular model was made by Samsung on a limited bases only for the VPCSE190 model. It is no longer made. Those found on the internet are used and highly priced.

SOURCE: How To Remove My Hard Drive????????

This is a complicated process and I advise you to be very cautious and carefully organize all screws and cables that you unplug in a clean and undisturbed area. Pay keen attention as to where cables are unplugged from so you can plug them in when hard drive is inserted. I must say proceed at your own risk because it might get frustrating if you are not careful and organized. First, turn over the laptop and loose all 7 screws on the perimeter of the laptop. Loose one screw in the middle and 2 on both sides of the battery (total 10 screws). Remove the battery, there are two clips there holding the keyboard. Release those and remove the keyboard and unplug main keyboard data cable from motherboard. Unplug the power switch cable, and the touchpad cable from m/board. Unscrew 3 screws from under the keyboard to remove the top cover of laptop. When that is removed you will see the hard drive in the bottom right. There are 3 screws holding the hdd to the system and 4 holding the enclosure that needs to be removed. Unplug the sata cable and use it for new sata hard drive. I hope you have had the patience to do this as this is a job for a technician. If you have succeeded, congratulations.

SOURCE: remove the drop down icon bar on sony vaio

Usually, with a dropdown toolbar, you can put the cursor all the way to the top of the screen and with the toolbar visible, right click on it to activate a control menu from which you can stop it from dropping down, unlock it and move it to either sidr, or even turn it off altogether.

If this doesn't work, try entering yout laptop model name in Google search followed by "disable dropdown toolbar" for blogs and forums for your laptop model that may have a specific command or trick for your machine.

Good Luck

HOW TO REMOVE THE SONY VAIO VGN-N365E HARD DRIVE

This was a real pain because Sony doesn't and won't release a hardware maintenance manual. You have to take all the screws off that you see on the bottom with the little arrow next to them. Slide out the optical drive and remove the 3 screws hiding behind it. Remove the battery and take out the 3 screws behind it. Now look at the bottom of they keyboard below the row of keys with the space bar in it. There are 4 tabs that have to be pushed toward the touchpad to release the keyboard. It should swivel up now. Be careful as there is a ribbon cable behind it. Gently slide the dark brown bar away or to the right from the beige connector in the keyboard. That will release the ribbon cable. You can now see the last screw holding the top cover in place. Unscrew that screw and then you can remove the top cover. Gently pop up the edges of the top cover and work your way around. You will have to swivel the screen as far back as it goes to pop up the cover. You can just lift and move the top cover toward the screen now and reveal the hard drive. The touchpad has a smaller ribbon cable so you can choose to disconnect it if you want, but you don't have to. There are two long screws near the SATA connector that you have to remove. After taking them out, you can gently slide the drive out to the loft, caddie and all. I suggest labeling all the screws as you take them out or taping them in similar positions on a piece of paper so you can put them back in.

My sony ericsson w595 turns off when i flip open it

Hi,the problem you are experiencing with your phone is as a result of a weak flex connector cable.it has to be replaced, here's a detailed solution on how to replace the cable. STEP 1. Tools required: Phillips screwdriver, plastic tool such as a guitar plectrum or credit card.
  • Remove your back cover, battery, sim and memory card.
STEP 2. Run something like a credit card under the metal plate at the top of the phone. It is stuck down tight with double sided tape but it will come away with a little force.
STEP 3
  • Starting near the top of the phone, run your credit card along the join of the front cover. When you have released the cover as much as shown below, slide the cover down to remove it (clips hold the cover on at the bottom which will be bent if you don't slide the cover off).
STEP 4 You should now have the front cover removed. Remove the small screw you can see. STEP 5
  • With the slide open halfway, lift the up the part you've just removed the screw from to reveal three ribbon connectors. Each connector has a black latch which you need to flick over the release the ribbon
  • STEP 6
  • You now have the LCD screen removed. You don't need to go any further if you only want to replace the LCD.
  • STEP 7
  • Remove the speaker and connecting ribbon etc. It's just stuck down lightly. Remove the two screws you can see at the top of the phone.
  • STEP 8
  • You now need to lift the keypad up. It's stuck down lightly with double sided tape. Remove the two screws you can see.
  • STEP 9
  • Run your credit card around the join of the grey part of the phone to release a number of clips. Turn the phone over and release a few more clips in the battery compartment.
  • STEP 10
  • Your phone should now look like below. Two small bezels (shown in the picture) will pop off when you remove the back part of the phone. Now remove the two silver screws you can see.
  • STEP 11
  • You can now remove the battery compartment. A ribbon is stuck to the side of this and will peel away quite easily. Remove the two screws you can see.
  • STEP 12
  • The circuit board will now be loose but still connected by a ribbon. Again, flick the black latch over to release the ribbon.
  • STEP 13
  • Disassembly is complete. Reverse the whole procedure for reassembly.

Ps3

It's less work and risk to use original Sony blu-ray laser for the Playstation 3 complete with the mechanism. this is the part you need and makes it easier to replace.

Mine cost me £54 . You will need a special hex screwdriver its a T-10 for the PS3 (Make sure its the type with a hole in the centre)
and a set of small screwdrivers .. watch makers screwdriver set is ideal.
and just some regular Philips screwdrivers .
Eject any CD, DVDs you may have in the drive turn off PS3 and disconnect all cables.
The first step is removing the top cover of the PS3 ( IMPORTANT NOT:- this will invalidate any warranty you may have ).
Place your PS3 on a none fluffy and none static cloth to protect it while working.
IMPORTANT NOTE:- Before touching anything inside your PS3 or the
replacement part , make sure that you ground any static from yourself
by touching something metal)

To remove the cover locate the small rubber lug on the left hand side of the PS3,
it is partly covered with the warranty seal. peel off the warranty seal then remove
the rubber lug with small screwdriver.
you can now remove the hex screw using the T-10 screwdriver. then slide
the top cover to the right to remove. this will reveal the main cover.
the playstation 3 main cover has arrows showing the screws needed to be removed. remove them all and note where the short screw goes . if remember correctly it the top right hand corner.
Now care fully lift the cover from the rear upwards and disconnect any ribbon or cables from the the connectors .
put the top cover to one side. the the Blu-ray drive unit can now be lifted carefully
and any ribbon cables or plugs removed from the connectors then remove from PS3
Now you can work on the Blu-ray drive unit... This is the tricky part and is where you need to be extra
carefully because you could mess up your Blu-ray drive unit. take care when removing any of the ribbons
the connectors are very delicate. lift the connector release flaps with a small screwdriver gently
and when replacing any DON'T FORCE THEM DOWN WITH ANYTHING like the tip of a screwdriver. just slide the ribbon in then gently
close the flap down with your finger. the ribbon cables have black marker lines on them so you can see if they are correctly lined up and straight.

This is a video to show what it involves..

if your not confident with type of thing I Suggest
DON'T try it! Take it to an expert.
