How to activate closed captioning

Closed captioning for video files will either be hard coded into the video - meaning you cant turn off or change the language; or have an accompanying file of the same name - but an .srt extension.

Example: The movie "Gone With The Wind" will consist of the movie (video and audio) file called:

Gone With The Wind.avi or Gone With The Wind.mp4;

plus, a closed caption file called:

Gone With The Wind.srt.

If the video player you're using supports CC, such as "Videolan" "Media Player Plus" or others, it will automatically detect and play the CC .srt file ONLY IF it is located in the same directory as the movie file (.avi, .mp4). If you do not wish to see the CC on screen, simply delete or move the .srt file into a different directory.

If you're trying to display CC when playing a purchased or rented DVD or BluRay disk, you'll need to access the menu of the player that you're using to locate the options. Look for language / CC settings and make the desired choice.

I can't turn on closed captioning on Hitachi with Comcast scientific atlanta explorer 2200 cable box. Any words of wisdom?

Both the set and the box used should have the closed caption feature.

If box is in line to rear audio/video jacks you will have to engage the CC from the box.

I doubt it will work if hooked that way from within the box---go to menu and in CC area in either set or box select CC1 which is the most common one used.

How to get rid of closed captioning

If pressing the cc button on the Sharp remote does not turn off the closed captioning then the closed captioning is most likely coming from the cable box or whatever you have connected to this television. You can go into the cable box menu by pressing the menu button on the front when it is turned off. That's right turn off the cable box and then press menu on it to access the hidden menu that includes closed captioning. Scroll down to closed captioning and scroll over to disable. A number of other Directv receivers have the CC located on a "captioning" tab on the "display" page under setup and for dish network:
Setting Closed Captioning:
  1. Press and release the MENU button and then select "Preferences."
  2. Select "Closed Caption."
  3. Select "Caption On/Off."
  4. Select "CC is On."
  5. Select "Done."

Cannot turn closed captioning off. I have gone to setup, closed captioning and turned it to off. I still have closed captioning and I can't turn it off.

Sounds like the CC data is coming from your cable service. I would check your cable box options and turn CC of there as well. what company are you with as far as cable ? also what model cable box do you have?

How do you remove the subtitles?

Subtitles are controlled by 'CC". Closed Captioning. Look for a CC button on the remote or captioning.
Captioning usually is in the menu as well under 'settings'.
Closed captioning has several settings. OFF turns all captioning off. CC1, CC2, CC3 & CC4 are captioning styles. Text is for text channels.

Need to know how to put the tv on close caption

Captioned programs are marked in TV listings by "CC". so press the cc button on the remote and the closed caption option will be applied.press that cc button again to turn off the closed caption option.
1) Check the size and manufactured year of your television. If it was made after 1993 and is larger than 13 inches, it has a closed captioning system built into it. Otherwise, you may need to purchase a separate closed caption system, which are available at a number of online outlets.
  1. 2)Turn on your TV and access the menu for closed captioning. The precise location of the menu varies by television set. Most are accessible by pressing the "Audio" or "Set Up" menu on your remote, then scrolling down to the "CC" or "Closed Captioning" option. Check your owner's manual for precise instructions.
  2. 3)Turn the closed captioning option to the "On" position. It will then run closed captions for every program that broadcasts them. Newer sets may allow you to adjust the size, font and colors of the closed captioning letters to fit your individual tastes.
  3. 4)Tune to a particular program for a few minutes to make sure the closed captions are working. Note that while many broadcasts run closed captioning, not all of them do. If the captions don't appear, check your TV listing to ensure the program includes them.
  4. 5)If you're watching a DVd on your TV, access the DVD's "Set Up" menu. It should have captioned options, which allow you to show captions in English and possibly other languages as well.
  5. thanks.

I need to activate CC for my Dad, Please help I have to go to work. I have a flat screen SOYO

Determine if closed captioning is available on the program that you've selected. In your program guide, the letters "CC" should appear at the end of the description.
Locate the closed captioning option on your remote. Some remotes have a "CC" button that you simply need to push to activate closed captioning
Locate the closed captioning option in your television's menu if there is no "CC" button on your remote. To do this, push the "menu" button on the remote control. The closed captioning option will probably be in the same section as the language function.
Set the closed captioning option to "on." Within several seconds, you should see the text appear on your screen.
To use closed captioning for DVDs, look for the "CC" label on the lower back section of the DVD case where it lists audio information. Turn on your TV's closed captioning and you should see the captioning like you do on a television program. Alternately, some DVDs include English subtitles that you can turn on in the setup/language menu of the DVD.
Thank you.

Access the TV's menu by pressing the "menu" button on the remote. Look for "Captioning" or if not on the screen try "set-up" or "audio" all the while looking for "CC", "Caption" or "Closed Caption".
When you find it, turn it off.
