Question about GE Refrigerators

Water & ice in bottom of freezer

This refrigerator is at least 15 years old. I moved it to another house about a month ago. Ever since water runs down in the back of the freezer like it is defrosting. So much that ice fills the reservoir in the back and leaves ice in the bottom of the freezer. If I wait too long water runs across the floor. If I turn the icemaker off it doesn't happen. I replaced the icemaker but no effect. Any ideas?

Sounds like there is a damaged water line that is leaking into the freezer.

SOURCE: water leaking onto floor

Angels, sounds like your defrost drain is frozen over. When the refrigerator is going into defrost it's draining through the front instead of the drain pan. You can remove the shelves and peel off the back cover and clear the drain by pouring hot water on the frozen drain hole. If you have a baster of some sort you could try to squirt the hot water through the venting on the bottom of the panel. Another way to to point a hair dryer on the drain hole. The best method is to remove the shelves and panel and make sure the drain is clear. Catriver..post back.

SOURCE: Leaking icemaker

You may want to check that your water line isn't cracked.

Ours cracked and now we need to replace our floor. The water line is too close to the compressor which heats the plastic tubing and makes it brittle. Our refrigerator is 9 years old. Model #TPX24BRYFBB

Good luck

SOURCE: smelly water from door dispensor

I had the same problem. Drove me crazy and cost me about 5 filters at $50 a pop until I found the solultion. Water in the Sears/LG refrigerator that I have (french door trio) goes through the filter then into a container on the left front door of the refrigerator. That container stores the water so it can get cold and it also equalizes the flows in the system so that when you put your glass under the spigot the flow is steady and the water is cold. Problem is .... this tank can build up with algae/slime/foul tasting stuff. Since it is after the filter, no matter how many times you change the filter it will have no impact on the water in this container. That is why if you use the water spigot a lot, the water seems to get a little better (as the tank water gets diluted) but as soon as you don't use it for several hours or more, back comes the smelly water again. Solution for me was to remove the plastic panel on the inside of the left front door and clean the plastic bottle. It is pretty easy to remove with 2 screws and easy to pull off the hoses. I filled is with a little clorox and water and swished it around for several minutes then drained and rinsed it. Then I filled it again with a little clorox (like an ounce or two max) and put the container back into the fridge. Once in the fridge, I ran fridge water through the front water dispenser for about a gallon or so. This flushed out the chlorine in the plastic container as well as the lines between the container and the spigot. After about a half hour of work, my great tasting water in the fridge is back again. I've checked the taste on this water for several weeks now and no plastic/odor/bad tasting water any more. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: freezer malfunction

Drain hole is clogged behind the panel that covers the coils. I found a peice of solder blocking mine. Water was freezing on the bottom of the freezer and leaking out to the floor.

Water collecting inside fridge, under meat drawer

Yes most responses are the freezer drain even if it is in the bottom freezer. If the drain is blocked water will build up anywhere inside your refrigerator only because it has no place to go during the defrost. Defective door seals can also can make the problem much worse. Water & ice in bottom of freezer

Most likely cause is a blocked defrost drain line. The freezer has a defrost cycle which turns on a heating element below the evaporator to clear any built up frost or ice. This defrosted water should then drain through a plastic line to below the unit. Check for drained water in the drip pan or plastic moulded container over the compressor. If it is completely dry then follow the blocked drain line, clear it. If further assistance is required please provide details of What brand and Model your unit is? Hope this helps.

Hi. We moved to a house with an integrated Teka A-FC1359 Fridge/Freezer. It was working fine. We switched it off 3 months ago. Now we've swithched it back on but it's not working.

It can be issue with faulty compressor capacitor. From main power outlet the power goes to capacitor beside compressor and from there power goes to compressor motor, then after that all unit works.May be that capacitor got shorted or loose from its actual connection.Or other possibility is faulty power wire of refrigerator.Get the wire checked with continuity tester to confirm its not broken in between.

Ice smells like mildew! We purchased the refrigerator/freezer new 6 months ago. It does not seem to be a problem caused by other foods in the freezer. Model number: FFTR2126LW

Mildew smell in your ice is caused by one of three things. 1. Old, dirty, clogged water filter 2. Bad water quality from your house water supply 3. Ice that has not been used and sits in the bucket for time can become stale tasting.

Ice maker not working

For the missing arm you should contact the company via your dealer. The water pipe must be clogged with ice and dirt preventing water to flow to the ice maker. If you have real patience, you can fix it but might take some time. Take some warm water and pour it slowly through the pipe in the opposite direction of water flow. The warmness of water will melt the ice and clear of the dirt. Sometimes it may take hours, but the time taken depends on the amount of ice in the pipe. Since this is a matter of just 2 months, i assume it won't take much time.

Hi GE top freezer fridge - 5 years old( no ice

Well for one thing that unit was manufactured 10 years ago. But it sounds like the defrost drain is clogged and the water is running down the inside of the unit. The evaporator (not condenser) is on the bottom of the freezer compartment. The bottom panel of the freezer comes out. They are a bit of a pain to do, but can be done.

Check the back wall of the freezer for a ice buildup.
If ice is there you have a defrost parts issue.
That will cause the temps you report.
Also, check the freezer fan motor.
Is it running?
Also check the condenser fan motor at the compressor. Is it running?

its possible that your water tank has frozen up, try turning the refrig off and leave the doors open for about 10-15 mins and try it again. if that works just reset temp controls a little lower..
