Computer has a problem communicating with my forerunner 205

My forerunner 205 will no longer transfer data to my cpu.  It will charge through the usb port for some reason though.  I tried upgrading the software. Any tips?

My forerunner 205 fails to communicate to my computer to transfer data even though it is connected properly. The Forerunner shows "Transfer Complete" but computer shows that there is a problem while communicating with the device.

My computer says it is an "unknown device" and I must unplug and replub several times before it works. Sometimes I get a blue error screen when I first turn on my computer concerning (app:gstart)

I am having the same problem. The forerunner said 'Transfer Completed" while the Training Center reported "There was a problem while communicating with your device. Please make sure it is connected to the computer, the try again." The unit is connected to the computer for sure. I tried uninstall and reinstall Training Center and it still doesn't work. I even tried installing Training Center on different computer. The results were the same.

yes, I have the same problem, haven't got a good solution from the tech I contacted. Get this, I have done several half-marathons while this problem has existed, so have gone screen-by-screen on the Forerunner 205 to manually transcribe all the splits and such!

I still hope to be able to "transfer" the information on the 205 that is still there, to the training center for analysis. Will the solution that was posted "erase" everything that is already on the forerunner 205's history??

My Forerunner is connected to the computer. When I try to transfer the information to the computer I get a message that the computer has a problem communicating with my forerunner 205, even though on the Forerunner it says transfer complete. I was going to uninstall and reinstall the software, but aapparently from the posts I read it will still not work.

I just got off the phone with garmin tech. She helped me solve the problem. Here are the steps.

1. Go to http://www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=010-00466-00

2. Download "Forerunner 205 Ver. 2.80 as of Nov 12, 2007", unzip it, and browse to the folder you unzip the files to.

3. Make sure your Forerunner is connected to your computer and turn it on. Drag file "048401000280.rgn" and drop it on "Updater.exe". A screen will pop up, select "USB" then click OK. Then wait till the process completes.

4. Go to the website on Step 1 and download "Training Center For Windows Ver. 3.3.4 as of Feb 29, 2008". Install it.

5. Run Training Center. At this point, I am able to send/receive data to my Forerunner.

Hope this helps!

Yesterday i download the forerunner 205 software from the garmin website. after i connect my unit using usb to the computer, my garmin won,t power on immediately. i tried to reset it (soft and hard reset)...

Did you install the software correctly? Because such errors appear usually when the update/upgrade is not finisher or was not done in a proper manner.
If possible try to verify the device on another computer (a friend's) to see if the same problem appear.
If the problem persists I'd say you've burned out your battery (hope not the hole Forerunner...!).

I reinstalled the driver of my garmin forerunner 205 but it is still not recognized by my computer. it has been working for over a year but now I do not get any connection and the device is not recognized...

Hello,

When you connect the unit to the cradle is there any reaction from the unit? I would try using a different USB port and cord first if this dosent fix your problem the next step would be to obtain a new cradle for your unit. They can be purchased here http://www.gpscity.ca/garmin-forerunner-205-305-charging-cradle.html.

Hope this helps!

I have a new Forerunner 305 and it transfered my first workout to the computer but will no longer do so. The device says "Transfer Complete" however the computer states "There was a problem communicating...

I've just experienced a similar issue for the first time since owning my Garmin 305 Forerunner. Slight difference in my circumstance is that the device itself doesn't show the activity in its history, despite having displayed apparently accurate readings during the activity iteself. Bizarre isuee, and although it's my first issue with this otherwise great device, it does destroy your faith in the unit.

My forerunner will no longer turn on or even charge, can they be repaired or am I best to buy a new unit?

Garmin will repair it for about eighty bucks.
http://www8.garmin.com/support/outofwarranty.html

But first, try cleaning the electrical contacts on the forerunner and the cradle by rubbing them with a pencil eraser. The slight abrasive should remove any oxidation on the metal. A bad contact between the unit and the cradle could be your problem.

Communication between device and computer

The first thing I would try is to go to the manufacturers web side and download current USB drivers for you computer and device. Install the driver, reboot your computer and try to connect the device. If that doesn't work please let us know.

Garmin Forerunner 205 Battery won't charge. A few

Hey everyone. Just called Garmin and got it fixed. Sometimes the forerunner goes into power saver mode and needs to be reset

1. Hook up the usb cable and docking station to the computer.
2. Next, hook up your forerunner to the Docking station - It should pop up saying battery charging in progress
3. Leave it all hooked up and Hold the Mode and Lap/Reset Button together for 15 seconds - screen should go blank.
4. Let both go - should pop back up saying battery charging in progress.
5. Let Charge 20 minutes and it should be good to go.

Hope this helps!!!

Forerunner 305 won't charge

Question: My Edge or Forerunner 205/305 won't power on. Is there a soft reset that I can do?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
From the Garmin web site.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Answer: If a Forerunner or Edge 205/305 is unable to power on, a soft reset can be performed to un-freeze it. This will not erase any user data and is most effective if the device is connected to the computer while performing the reset.
To reset the Forerunner or Edge 205/305:
  1. Connect the device to the computer using the USB cable
  2. Press and hold the mode and reset (lap) buttons together for 10 seconds
  3. Release and wait for 3 seconds
  4. There should be some indication of battery charging (either Finished or In Process)
  5. Power the device on while keeping it connected to the computer
In addition, please make sure that the device has the latest software version

Forerunner 205 wont turn on

"To power the unit back on, press the "Mode" and "Reset" buttons at the same time. Let go of those two buttons, press the power button, and the unit will turn back on."
If the unit is no longer displaying maps or lap data in the PC downloaded history ....perform a reset (as above) AFTER deleting all the Garmin HISTORY. This is done on the unit by navigating through HISTORY to "DELETE ALL" ---> now perform a soft reset.
