Whirlpool microwave: Light, fan and turntable operate fine, but will not heat or defrost. Tried popcorn and it will not come off the "sensing" mode. Was working well, then just nothing.

It is likely that the magnetron has failed, or the fuse or capacitor in that circuit.

As in other posts, I'd advise taking it to a service tech unless you are quite sure what you are doing taking the casing off it. The magnetron circuit generates a lethally high voltage which can still be present even when unplugged from the mains.

BTW if it was not an expensive model, just buy another, as the cost of parts and labour could be $100-150

Using the Auto Defrost feature on my microwave oven

How do I use the Auto Defrost feature on my microwave oven?
To use the Auto Defrost feature on your microwave oven, please do the following:
  1. Unwrap food, place on the turntable, and close the door.
  2. Touch Defrost.
  3. Select food by entering 1 for Meat, 2 for Poultry or 3 for Fish, or touch Defrost repeatedly to scroll through the food selections.
  4. Enter the weight in pounds:

Meats and Poultry can be set from 0.2 to 6.6 lb (90 g to 3 kg).
Fish can be set from 0.2 to 4.4 lb (90 g to 2 kg).

Doneness may be adjusted at this time by touching Cook Time.
  5. Touch Start. The display will count down the defrost time. When the cycle ends, "End" will appear in the display, and the end-of-cycle tones will sound, followed by reminder tones.
  6. Touch Cancel Off or open the door to clear the display and/or stop reminder tones.
The Defrost system has 3 categories: Meat, Poultry and Fish. It should not be used for food left outside the freezer more than 20 minutes and frozen ready-made food. Use the following chart as a guide.

Here is your owners manual:

Please recommend a good model for microwave with convection ranging from 25 to 30 me to select from whirlpool,LG,panasonic.can suggest any other model.

In fact it is important that most of the models are good and many of them use spares from each other. so I suggest that you must buy the one you like to suit your kitchen , the price that suits you well , the best discount to give you value for money and finally the make that offers the best after sales service.
Do not buy recommended models witth no back up near to you but choose the make/model that fits your use. For a family of four a 25 litre is good enough, must have convection if you choose to bake/ cook or only microwave if you are using for defrosting/heating.
The prices will vary and make your choice accordingly.
Hope my adivce helps

I have a GE model JVm1650bh05 Microwave that appears to need a new magnatron. It stopped after we switched from defrost mode to full power. Died entirely. No power. We replaced the fuse and it comes on but...

No, not with the same mounting hardware. You have to replace everything. I recommend Panasonic first if you can find it in a hanging hood model, Whirlpool second. Make sure you also install a 2000 joule or larger surge protector. Good Luck, Appliance Specialists
