External monitor has no input signal

You can't just attach an external monitor to most running laptops. Nothing will happen. You must attach the monitor when the laptop is off, then start the laptop and it will recognize the external monitor and send the video to it.

Iqon external monitor showing no input from Compaq laptop

Dear Darren,

In general, you need to select which output display to use, when you have more than one display connected to the laptop.

This can be done by pressing and holding the fn in the lower left hand of your keyboard and then pressing F4. Doing this repeatedly will switch from the laptop display to the external display to image on both displays.

Hope you may find this information helpful!

No Audio on external device via VGA

Dear Paul,

VGA cables have no provision to carry audio signal - they only carry video signals.

In general, external monitors that also have speakers have RCA-type or miniplug-type audio inputs. In this case, you will need to use another audio cable to connect the phones output of your laptop to the input of your monitor, using a suitable cable.

If you provide us the model number of your laptop, as well as the one for your external monitor, we could try to find the info regarding the kind of audio cable needed to connect both.

Hope you may find this information useful!

Best regards,

Miguel L. Martins

No input monitor signal

Sounds like the video card inside the computer is bad. If the monitor was bad it would not be able to display the No Input Signal. To make sure, try connecting another monitor to the computer. Borrow a monitor from a neighbor, friend, relative or co-worker and connect it to the computer. If the Borrowed monitor displays the same No Input Signal message then your video card is bad. If the Borrowed monitor displays and works ok, then your original monitor or lcd screen is bad.

If you have a laptop, The video will show on most systems when you reboot without you having to do anything. Some systems will require you to hit the FN (Function key) + F1 thru F12. Hold down the FN key then hit the correct key for displaying on the monitor (F1 thru F12). The correct key will normally have CRT/LCD on it or it will have the icon of a display.

Samsung Monitor 192N light turns green when powered on then goes out after few seconds

this usually means the monitor is not getting a signal
  • i would check the hdmi/dvi/vga cable connections dirk_s.jpg
both on the back of the pc and on the back of the monitor.

  • if the connections are tight, and plugged in well, maybe try and connect it to a second computer or laptop.
    • If it works the problem probably lies with your gfx card in your computer (verify this by trying another monitor on it)
  • If it doesn't work on those i would try and replace the aforementioned cable (usually pretty cheap)
  • if the problem still persists the monitor would probably need to be replaced as its defective.

Monitor goes into sleep mode...mentions no input ........tried rebooting and turning off power with no luck..then replaced cable connecting monitor to computer and still not working...

Connect the monitor to another computer (laptop?) to see if the monitor works at all.

Try connecting another monitor to your computer, to verify that your computer is emitting the correct video signals.

My monitor gets no input signal, computer does

Try the montor on the external vga connection of the laptop. You can swap the signal from the laptop screen to the external monitor using the swap key (usually a FN key). You can do this whilst the laptop is up and running. If you see the display there, then you know the monitor is o.k. Then check the connection to the PC. If it is a card (PCI/AGP) make sure the card is properly seated. If you don't see display on either check the pins on the monitor plug if any are bent or missing. Sometimes these pins can be accidentaly pushed back into the plug housing. You can retrieve them with small long-nosed pliers.
