I had the same problem today, Hp wanted $629+tax to fix. With a little mechanical ablity anyone can fix this.
1. remove back covers
2. left-hand side is the video board
3. two white fuses
this fixed mine and they only cost $1.50 each

SOURCE: I have a 32
This is a backlight or inverter Problem. Based on the model you have, I am guessing the inverter is defective.
Inverter is defined as the board in the TV that supplies power for the flourescent lights inside the LCD TV that provide backlighting for the TV's Display

There are two places to look for the problems, the backlight inverter board and the power supply. Look at the power supply first since it is easier to get to, look for burnt parts, bad capacitors, etc. Look for 5vdc, 12vdc, and 24dvc.
Please post back what you find.

I see this sort of thin often in my shop, however unfortunately, this is only a SYMPTOM, the "Cause" unfortunately, can be, and are Many and Varied. usually it has to do with the Voltages being wrong, often involving the Power Supply, and High tension section. There is no realistic way to repair a TV of this sophistication, in house. The tools, equipment and the need for a service manual and experience to repair is considerable. Plus when faulty, a TV can cause a fire or an explosion, so it is owed to all, that it be professionally attend to, as if a repair was done, incorrectly and there was such an event. it would be very bad for the repairer. It is my professional recommendation, that you get a free "Quote" for a repair. This way you can make an informed safe decision to repair or replace.
