Try to burn a cd

my cd burner doesn't work, whenever I try to burn.... music, pictures, data......with any program....nero burning, wizard, media player.......when you have to push the button that says "burn" you get a message that the cd player is empty and you need to place an empty cd in it, when there is already one in, and it opens imediately the cd player itself.....

so, what can I do??? it probably is a problem with the writer itself.....but what????? and how to fix it???
