SOURCE: paper jam light is on
Hi! I have the same issue. The only solution I still use: select print from document with no paper in the hp's feeder. Let the printer go on "paper out" message, now put the paper into the feeder and press the print button on the printer. Success!

Granny2 - If you just purchased this printer, exchange it for another and if you still have the same problems, take it back again, only switch to an HP product, they have great All-in-One printers that are affordable.

If the media sensor is positioned correctly and the printer is set for an autocalibration on power up and printhead close a manual calibration is not really needed. However, here is the information that is the easiest way to run a manual calibration.
• With the printer at a ready state, press the MODE button two times or until the CALIBRATE light comes on.
• Press the FEED button.
• Once this is complete press the MODE button four (4) times to save these settings.

Testimonial: "Thank you for your reply. I've decided that it will be much less expensive in time and materials to just buy a replacement printer."
Use the Menu system to calibrate, follow the instructions and it should calibrate with New settings. Calibration by setting it to calibrate on head close or bootup only loads factory settings.
