SOURCE: Door will only close when held down

That normally happens when the sensors aren't aligned. Both sensors have led lights on them the yellow/orange one will stay on all the time the green one will go out if it cant see the other sensor. Possibly theres a wire that's broken or the other sensor is really out of alignment. Check every inch of wiring from the sensor to the opener, remove wire nuts if present and check the connections. The wires that are used are small, solid and can break easily. Also see if there's a staple that's too tight, move the wire abit where it's stapled and look for damage.

SOURCE: liftmaster pro 1/2 hp wont shut in one button press

You have a door sensor problem. Either your main light bulb is burned out or you don't have one in your opener. The clicking sound you hear is the relay for the light. Both of the door sensors should have a small light that is lit. Tweak them until they are.

SOURCE: Garage Door will not stay closed.

You need to check the adjustment for the travel of the door ... All automatic closers have a built in safety mechanism that prevents children, pets and even yourself from being crushed by the door ... so if the travel is set to low the door will hit the ground too hard and safety mechanism will activate opening the door again! Look at you documentation for how to adjust this for your particular model :)

Craftsman Garage Door Opener Problems Going Down

It reversal of the door with the flashing lights is a normal function. It means that the door either didn't see the eye at the door bottom, or the force to close the door was to great. Both of these make the door reverse and go back up.
Just 2 months ago my spring broke. I had a guy out to replace and he found that the drive gear was almost broke off. I had tightened up the chain a month or two before this because it was sagging down far, and had noticed that it was sagging again when the spring broke.
So I had the gear replaced.
I'm guessing you have a similar problem. The drive gear is almost broke and the force to get the door down is too much so it reverses.
Gear cost was $119, so it was about 1/2 price of new opener.
But now with new spring and gear it's running quiter and slicker than I can ever remember it before.
Good luck!

My garage door will not open. The motor hums when I press the garage door button but nothing happens. If I remove the chain, the motor runs as normal and the gear rotates as normal. If I put the chain...

Check to ensure one or more of your garage door springs isn't broken (they last about 10 years). Most doors, especially double wides, have two or more springs. If one breaks, as they ultimately will, the motor won't have enough mechanical assistance from the spring to lift the door; however, gravity and one good spring will certainly close it.

Check your door springs. Usually just over the door and can be seen when the door is closed. A broken spring is the most common cause of this problem.

Door doesn't open all the way through just moves 20 -24"

A couple things you need to check right off. First is the door springs. They are usually above the door and if one of them breaks they will cause this. Check closely they sometimes look okay. The next thing is to remove the cover and check the drive gear of the opener. Usually this is obvious when it goes bad because you will find what looks like white sawdust on the inside of the cover. If both of these are okay you can increase the 'up force'. This is normally on the back of the motor unit near all those white wires depending on the manufacturer.

My craftsman 1/2 hp garage door starts to close and then opens up

I had a simular issue, except mine was that the previous owner decided to mess with all the settings and mounts and screwed everything up.

The problem isn't your force sensors its your downwards stopping sensor on the opposite side of the opener. For me I had to take the entire panel off and replace the sensor back in its holder, but try adjusting that sensor setting (clockwise goes down, counterclockwise goes up).

If that doesn't work then i dunno:)

Also set both force settings in between 0-1, for some reason with mine if i set it higher it would set them off....

1.3HP CRAFTSMAN CHAMPION GARAGE DOOR OPENER-NEW IN 2004

Well sounds like its a pressure setting. you said you open the door by hand? Was it easy to do? Ask your self this can a 15 year old kid open it and close it? If so then it sounds like its a presure setting There should be two blue slots on your opener with numbers 1-9 says up and down force. Turn the up force towards the bigger number. Just a little bit. But before you do that as the other guy stated make sure that your cables and springs are working. Spring depending on your doors can be in three places but we going to assume you has the most common set up so look over the top of your door (with it closed) you should eb able to see a tube running across there. and somewhere in the in middle a set of spring look at the spring to make sure that you dont see any of the tube showing in the springs. Becare not to touch the spring as they are under a lot of stress.

Garage door won't stay closed

Check the down limit:
If the light bulb(s) on your operator are on the front and/or back, the limit adjustment screw is on the left side of the operator (looking from the back of the operator and facing  the garage door).. If the lights are on the sides of the operator then the limit adjustment screw is on the left side (looking from the back of the operator and facing  the garage door)
