Take out the copier engine and cartridges. There's probably a few shreds of paper in there somewhere.

Can i print directly from ipad to HP Ink Jet 8600 plus

No. The USB port on the front on the printer is there for connecting memory devices such as flash drives, and can also connect to cameras when the camera is set up to transfer pictures. It is not a fully functioning USB port such as those on a PC. Also, you would need a printer driver installed on the iPad for the HP 8600 in order to communicate with it, and I am not sure that there is a driver designed for tablets/iPads.

Did you install the drivers and the software that came with the unit. If you need to get them they are here:

Why does my Officejet Pro 8600 have lines across colour printing which do not appear to be removed when I clean the printheads. Any advice?

I've noticed this on my all-in-one HP Office Jet. And though I had a little black ink left, I went ahead and installed a new black ink cartridge. Cleared up the problem. You would think what does black ink have to so with color issues but black is used in the color process. Maybe someone with more knowledge on color balancing may be able to answer that. Also, sometimes it may take several cleanings of the heads to clear them. It also depends on how old the printer is and how often it's used. So these are educated guesses but as I originally indicated my issue was due to black ink that either was old to begin with or had been in long enough to start causing issues.
I hope this helps.

Hmmm, you could either contact a local HP printer support/repair facility or find a find a buddy who is good at reattaching the ZIF (zero insertion force) connectors - be careful !!

For information on North American ink refill services (for your HP950/951 ink cartridges) at a major retailer near you (should you wish to save ~50% on ink costs), general printing problem resolutions or advanced HP printer diagnosis procedures (advanced cartridge diagnostic tests/cartridge error bypass & printer reset methods, etc.), please visit Inkjet411: http://www.inkjet411.com
