Cyan ink tank not recognised

Upon switching my printer on today, the Cyann ink tank can not be recognised, error U150. The contacts do not appear dirty but I have not given them a real clean, the other tanks work perfectly, what could be the problem here?

Re: Cyan ink tank not recognised

The same as my problem:

My brand new MP510 reported it couldn't recognise the cyan cartridge, we took out the cyan cartride, then immediately clicked it back in...the light came on & it worked for a couple of days. Then it began being "not recognised " more & more frequently, but would work for a while if loosened then replaced, until it refused to be recognised AT ALL. If one tank can't be recognised the whole printer wont work which is VERY inconvenient. The shop we bought it from is a long drive away, but I managed to get a new cyan locally, & we've had no trouble for 2 weeks. BUT yesterday the yellow intermitently couldn't be recognised, and today refuses to be recognised at my printer again wont function at all. It seems to be a design fault if one cartride malfunction negates the whole machine....most of my printing needs are black for documents.

Re: Cyan ink tank not recognised

I phoned Canon Tech Support Center this morning. They had me replace the ink tank giving me the U150 error code and are sending me a replacement tank. HOPEFULLY this will solve the problem.

Error code U150 The following ink tank cannot be recognized

First, make sure you have the right ink cartridges. Here are the right codes: CLI-8BK and PGI-5BK for black, Yellow - CLI-8Y, Magenta - CLI-8M, Cyan - CLI-8C.

If the ink lamp is off then an ink tank error has occurred. Try to remove the ink tank and re-seat it. Make sure you removed the plastic cover on the ink tank. If nothing helped, you need to replace the faulty ink tank.

Because these a refills inks the Chip things they are full so you must replace the cartridge with a new Canon one and the fault will go. If not just replace the chip with a new one!

U150 error message

There was plenty of ink left in my Cyan tank but just replacing it with a new Canon CLI-8C one, as suggested by techguru005, did the job. I suppose that the chip must have been faulty?
Let's see how long this one lasts!
Thanks, techguru005, it's fixed for now.

Error code: U150 The following ink tank cannon be recognized (Cyan)

U150 ink error fixed!

I too was getting the error for unrecognized ink cartridge. Then the little green circ board fell out of the end of the ink cartridge and it hit me that maybe if I put in the little green circ board from the old ink cartridge of the same color, then maybe the ink cartridge would be recognized. It worked! So don't throw out an ink cartridge that still has ink just because of that error and hold onto your empty cartridges in case you need the little green/gold circ boards.

This works!

Alarm light on, Display indicates error message: Check Ink U150 M

I added my post today with the same problem, and thought I'd share what I since learned. Apparently this "Alarm light/U150" is common with several Canon models. The U150 indicates a faulty electronic chip (on the ink cartridge). Though I tried cleaning the sensor with isopropyl alcohol, and also tried removing all the cartridges, unplugging the printer for 45 seconds, then reconnecting, etc. as I had read might help, I still had the same frustrating problem. Contacting Canon was the solution that worked for me. First I emailed, but decided I didn't want to wait for their response. A call to Canon Tech Support (1-800-385-2155) was quick and painless. They will more than likely send you a new cartridge, but you'll need to have your serial # & date of purchase handy.

U150 error

Anyone game for a class action against Canon? I've called, E-Mailed, and faxed, all to no avail, not one answer, no return contact whatsoever!!! Please post this info about these piece of **** Canon printers on every website you can and anywhere else you can, the world needs to know what GARBAGE Canon is unloading onto the unsuspecting consumer. Hopefully, it will get Canon's attention and maybe those losers will take notice when their sales drop! What say everyone boycott anything that says Canon on it. Come on Canon, take care of this junk you have ripped us off on. I am even telling people IN the stores who are looking at printers to AVOID Canon completely.
