Download ubuntu. copy it onto a dvd as an .iso that will then be used as a bootable disk. Install this disk in your cd/dvd drive. Turn on your pavilion and go into bios to make sure the DVD drive has boot priority. Once you boot up into Ubuntu, you can access the DISK UTIL. Running this utility will offer you a way to read the "smart data" and thereby verify if your disk is physically damaged. IF the smart data shows any bad sectors, then try to do a back up and reinstall on a new hard drive. It's a long process but diagnosing the physical condition of the drive is the first step.

Disk boot failure

Yes, this is have drive issue. May not be fixable with the restore disk. Test your hard drive to see if it's still in working order.

Reads boot disk failure 0

Boot disc 0 failure is usually indicative of the failure of the hard drive that contains the operating system. Make sure the hard drive is well seated into the cables and that the cables are seated onto the motherboard. If it all is well, then the hard drive has most likely failed and needs to be replaced.

Still wont boot

Disk boot failure is usually a sign that your operating system has become corrupt in some way.
If you've got your Windows disc, put that in the CD rom, then boot the computer.
There's a "repair" option that you can select, instead of re-installed Windows.
That *should* fix the problem.
It's also (thought unlikely) possible that your hard drive has died completely.

UNABLE TO BOOT DELL D600 - FAILURE TO DETECT HARD DISK

If you press F12 during bootup, you should get the boot menu. Run the hard disk diagnostic. If the hard disk is bad, you will get a DST Short Test Error code.

Replacing the hard disk in a D600 is a piece of cake though so if you need a new HD, it's easy to do. The tedious work will come afterward.

DISK BOOT FAILURE

The sata cable\bus that connect the hard disk with the motherboard get loosen up some times. that results in the disk boot failure. if you once remove the sata cable from the harddisk and motherboard and then fix it tightly you can get the system working properly again. if the problem again persist then bye a new sata cable and fix it by replacing the older one, Thank You!

Boot failure

Try booting from a dos boot disk or windows startup disk, this will prove that HW is OK

then if it boots OK you may have a HDD problem.
