Look for bad caps with bulging tops as shown in my pictures here: http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/Viewsonic%20VX2235W/
They should be replaced as a set (6 black cases, 2 brown cases). Use PANASONIC FM or F series from Digikey.

I had a similar problem and it was not the inverter nor the bezel but the little black sensor that activates when your close the lid on the right side of the laptop. That sensor was broken and made the laptop act as if the lid was closed. When I manually pulled that button up with my hand it would work. To permanently solve this issue I removed the base of the laptop and took that lid sensor out of the laptop because it was broken at the connector was lying to the contact causing the laptop to stay in hibernate or sleep mode.
