I will have to assume this is a chain if so you can buy what is called a master link to reconnect it. The size of the chain is usually printed or stamped on the side of it. You'll have to get a master link this size. Can probably find one in an auto parts store

1988 Dodge Ram 50 Automatic shifts into park reverse and neutral. But physically won't go into drive gears.

Disconnect shift cable from transmission linkage and try to manually put transmission in drive gear ( make sure wheels chocked/park brake on ). If transmission goes into drive gear, suspect a shift cable or shifter assembly problem. If you can't manually shift into drive gear by hand with cable disconnected, suspect internal transmission/shift linkage issue

My 1986 f150 4 wheel drive w/automatic transmission won't shift out of park even with all linkage disconnected

Your transmission is broken inside. There are shifting forks and linkage inside that jammed up - due to the delicate nature of the linkage, it is likely it bent. Remove the side plate the linkage bar hooks to and carefully remove plate to inspect for disconnected or bent linkage. If the plate won't come off, then the transmission will need to be disassembled to fix.

How to replace the shift linkage in the pontiac montana van

On that van, like many other GM front-wheel-drive vehicles, the shift cable goes through a bracket on the transmission to the linkage( the little metal arm). Where the cable connects to the linkage, there is a ball stud. It takes quite a bit of force to disconnect the cable from that. If it became disconnected at that ball without any other outside influence, the shift cable may need to be replaced. You can try pushing the plastic end of the shift cable back on to that ball stud ,it should click into place.
If the ball stud became disconnected from the linkage(little metal arm), the linkage would need to be replaced.
There should be a locknut holding the linkage to the transmission stud right above the range selector switch. If it came loose of there, you may need a new linkage, and to replace that nut

How to remove the in door of a 1990 bmw 325i? And also the drivers door will not lock when i turn the key the other doors lock but the drivers door doesnt how should i go about fixing that?

Sounds like you need to replace the power door lock actuator for the driver's door.

E30 Models
  1. Remove the door panel and the water shield.
  2. Disconnect the wiring from the actuator. Remove the screws and pull the actuator off the linkage.
  3. When installing, move the actuator and linkage to the locked position.
  4. Connect the linkage to the actuator and loosely install with the screws.
  5. Compress the actuator drive to take out any play in the linkage and tighten the screws.
  6. Test the locks and install the door panel.

E36 Models
  1. Remove the door panel and water shield.
  2. On the front doors, remove the guide rail nut and pull the guide rail down. Disconnect the wiring and the linkage from the actuator.
  3. On the rear doors, remove the window and the access panel. Disconnect the wiring and the linkage from the actuator.
  4. Remove the 3 bolts holding the latch and actuator to the door structure.
  5. Install in reverse order using threadlocker on the bolts.

Want ****.

Hello
Try this. Disconnect the transmission linkage under the hood at the
colum. Now try moving the shift lever,if it functions normaly, check the
linkage from the colum to the transmission to see if it is bent or bound up. If you still can't shift with the linkage disconnected, the problem is
inside the colum. The easiest fix is to get a used colum.
If you have a cable. Disconnect it at the transmission first. if it still won't
shift, disconnect the cable at the colum. If it shifts, replace the cable.
If not. You're back to replacing the colum. In either case, block the wheels, and make sure the linkage connection at the transmission moves freely. Hope this helps. Good luck.

4-wheel drive won't shift into gear

I take it you have the manual t-case shifter on the floor. If so check all your linkages from the shifter to the t-case, if all appears well, simply disconnect the linkage from the t-case and see if it moves if it does your problem is in the shift mechanism in the t-case. if it still wont move even while disconnected clean and lube the linkage. If this still doesn't do the trick. replace your linkage
