SOURCE: How can you manually open the Kitchen Aid KIRD861HSS?

By removing the decorative cover plate you somewhat expose the units inner workings. Carefully, insert a small sharp object into the unit at the point in which the micro-switch(es) are exposed. The micro-switch(es) will appear as small little plastic tabs that are poking out. While simultaneously depressing the power button, insert the sharp object into the micro-switch(es) closing the circuit. The down draft will raise enough to the point in which you can re-seat or install the filter thus making it operational.

SOURCE: KitchenAid KHTU160KSS Kitchen Hood makes noise

Remove the fan and motor assembly from the hood (the fan motor will plug into the hood housing) and using an electrical motor cleaner (such as CRC electrical motor cleaner available from your local auto parts store) wash the motor and fan as completely as possible, lubricate the end bearings (sparingly) with a very light oil such as sewing machine oil, gun oil or as a last resort 3 in 1 oil. Hope this helps.

Hello, where can I locate the replacement filters for my Whirlpool down draft model number KIRD861HSS

There should be a 1 or 0 at the end of the model #. Either way it uses the same part #. There have 2 different filters that can be used. One is probably stainless and the other is probably plastic due to the price difference. You can get them at: http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Type in your model# and select model# for type of search. Depending on your model, it will be #33,33A, or 33B on the drawing.

Hope this helps you out

Kitchen Aid downdraft hood stuck in retracted position

The filters need to be seated properly to complete an electrical safety circuit. This keeps the unit from operating without the filters. The best way I have found to fix them when they get dislodged in the closed position is by using two spatulas. The first is used to move the filter forward a bit and the second is used to keep it pushed tightly forward to complete the circuit.

Downdraft vent won't stay down. Push the button and it retracts normally, then pops right back up?

check your bottom limit switch - i'm guessing its bad. the unit doesn't stop operating til it trips a (working) limit switch, if the switch is bad it'll cyle right past it and go back up until it hits the top limit switch (again).

Hood does not pop up when depressing the push button

The filter elements are mostly likely not correctly in place so the latch is not tripping the micro-switch. Using a flash light this was clear by looking down into the front edge of the vent unit. I could see the element edge and the latch of the filter element. It wasn't latched tight. I used a paint scraper (two). Gently i nserted it while also using a flash light to see. I was able to lever and jiggle the filter element back into place and latch it. This activates the control. Then the unit would raise. I double checked the filter latches to be sure they were tightly closed.
