Problem is usually caused by anti-virus or anti-malware programs that think the Network Magic probes are hacking attempts and shut down or block the Pure Networks Platform Service or Network Magic Platform Service from even starting.

What anti-virus and anti-malware program[s] are you using?

Forgot my password for wrt120n

Looking for the Linksys WRT120N default password? You probably have little reason to access your router on a regular basis so don't feel too bad if you've forgotten the WRT120N default password.

However, when you're troubleshooting a network problem and need to get in to the device, the WRT120N default password suddenly becomes very important.

For most versions of the Linksys WRT120N, the default password is admin. As with most passwords, the WRT120N default password is case sensitive.

In addition to the WRT120N default password, you can also see the WRT120N default username and WRT120N default IP address in the table below.

Note: The Linksys WRT120N default password may be different for certain hardware orfirmware versions.

If I have that information, I'll include the exact WRT120N version number along with the correct default password. You can usually find your Linksys WRT120N version number on the bottom of the router.

Be sure to change the default router password on your WRT120N to something more secure as soon as you're in. Then use a free password manager so you'll never forget your new WRT120N password.
Help! The WRT120N Default Password Doesn't Work!

At some point during the life of your particular Cisco Linksys WRT120N, the default password, username, and/or IP address might have been changed.

In most cases, if the Linksys WRT120N default IP address has been changed, the new IP address for the WRT120N will be the same as the default gateway IP address configured for your network connection.

See How To Find the Default Gateway IP Address for help.

In situations where the WRT120N default password or WRT120N default username has changed, you'll need to reset the Linksys WRT120N to factory defaults. You can usually do that via a special button or sequence of actions.

The WRT120N manual will have specific directions for performing a factory default reset. You can download the manual for the WRT120N from Linksys Support.

Please let me know if any of the WRT120N default login data below needs updated. For other questions about the WRT120N default information on this page, see my Default Password FAQ.

The most recent version of Network Magic is 5.5, which is free from However it does not fully support Windows 7. You'll have to wait for a future version for full support.
Here's what Linksys/Cisco has to say about version 5.5 and Windows 7:
Windows 7Network Magic 5.5 has been minimally tested on pre-release versions of Windows 7 operating system. Full testing of Network Magic on this operating system will occur as it approaches readiness for release.

How do you set up a printer on the router?

Plug your printer in to the router as it were a computer, using Cat 5 ethernet cable. Do not plug into the "uplink" port. If you don't have a Cat 5 ethernet cable, you can purchase the same at any office supply place, computer place or even K-mart.

I am presuming you have a printer with an ethernet port, correct? (Looks like a big telephone jack) Cat 5 uses a plug called an RJ-45 - a telephone uses a RJ-11 and they are not - not interchangable.

I am also presuming you have at least XP or better or the parallel Mac OS.

You may want to get the evaluation version of Network Magic to help you manage your network. While they disavow support for network printers, there are many things you can do with your printer using NM. Google it - free download - free eval period. If you like the full features of NM, pay the $. I did and I have never regretted it. BTW, I am not a Cisco employee (maker of LinkSys and Network Magic. NM works with all brands of router.

I hope you found value in my response and I hope it helps you get your network rolling.

Positive comments always welcome.

Thanks for using

Go to the Cisco site and download Network magic. You can use the basic version free. It has a network map that shows you everything on your network. It will give you a full version on a trial basis, but after that you can continue to use the basic.

Unable to write network settings to device - windows cannot save your network settings to the selected device? Not sure what we have done wrong

Which network settings are you trying to write? In general, try getting Network Magic. It's a free download and trial and can help with some Linksys/Cisco problems.
Also, you may try getting into the firmware itself. Use any web browser and enter the following IP address as your URL: At that point you're directly accessing the settings on the router and should be able to make any changes you need. By the way, this only works if you're connected directly to the router via Ethernet cable.

2Wire Home Portal 1100 for AT&T DSL connection problem

HI! read your posting regarding the situation that your experiencing.. If before you dont have any problem regrding your connection with out the cisco network magic. I suggest that before you install the cisco network magic. you should get the full version not the trial version, there is a limitation of setting up the trial version.. Cisco network magic is a plug and play and easy to setup if you get the full version. I dont see any problem regarding your connection with the 2wire and the linksys router, becoz you mention earlier that hime network is working and you can connect to the network and the internet..
