Datacard sp75 - heater /thermocouple error. can not print anything due to this error. recently pulled the laminator with a stuck card badly burnt, could this be the cause and how can i solve it?

I have datacard sp 75 card printer which have been working well for long but of late it has developed an error (heater problem in laminator L1 OP 0164). It can hardly print any card as the error keeps on popping up once I send a print job. What can I do urgently as I have a lot of cards to print?

SOURCE: heater error in Sp75

Lamination Problem

You have to go to printer driver, see the general settings and put more darkness(normally it ranges from 0-20, it should be set at 10. Try puting the darkness at 11,12,13, etc until it laminates properly. Don't forget to put back the setting when printing ymcko, or you will burn ribbon.
If the head that prints color is the same that laminates, then you should be cleaning the head after use.

My datacard printer ribbon is supposed to get upto 500 images, but it is skipping every other color series so I am only getting 250 images

Every time you open the printer, it advances CMYK panel 01 to position the print head. This can cause loss of ribbon. Avoid opening the printer to the maximum you canoptimize your prints.

My datacard group SP75 color is printing cards with a white line all across it_

First, try to determine if it is printing a white line, or if an obstruction is possibly scratching the card surface; if it is an actual white line, then you probably have a pixel out in your printhead. Your printhead must be replaced.

Running "test" cards on the SP75 Plus.

Is the test card meant to the laminator heated?

If so, you should be able to set the laminator time out from 30 minutes to 5 hours.

This is done through the front panel under the configuration menu.

Hope this helps

Air bubbles in laminate

Do you have a dual lamination station in your printer? How old is the printer?

There may be contaminates on heated platen that is causing the bubbles. I would go into the printer settings and try various settings such as LAM1-BOTH SIDES and LAM2-NONE then LAM1-NONE LAM2-BOTH SIDES to isolate the issue

Heater error in Sp75

Sounds like either the thermocouple or the heater went out. Was this the error code?

OP-01604 Thermocouple problem in L1 laminator

The comments in the service manual states:
- Check the thermocouple wire for damage.
- If the thermocouple was recently replaced, verify that it is not installed backwards
- Verify that the thermocouple connector is not unplugged or plugged in backwards

I would probably order a replacement part, call in your local DataCard service representitive or send it to DataCard for repair.

Uper Duplex not holding card in place

early model sp75s have that type of problem. It can normally be fixed by replacing the clutch and duplex board. Very easy to replace. Be sure to be aware of the clutch spring when removing the duplex tray. Use the lower duplex assembly as a guide.

Printer Head Cleaning

It's in the blue plastic cover. Power down the SP75. Open cover to see the printhead. You'll see a green stripe. The printhead is in front of the stripe. Use an alcohol pen to run back and forth over the printhead. Do not drip alcohol onto the print ribbon. Allow a minute or two for alcohol to dry before reclosing the cover.
